Just roll em down and pull the fuse like said earlier. My friends do that and I will too if I have to. I have 20% on my door windows on the Gto, 5% on all the rears. Hell I have to get Friendly inspection anyways because I don't have cats lol but I would never retint the car just for a law..

Quickest way to get turned away. If you roll up in a newish vehicle and the windows are down and don't work, don't expect to get an inspection.

I never turned away anyone when they told me that. If they don't work, they don't work and they can't be inspected. It wasn't my job to troubleshoot someone's car troubles. I'd make the manager aware that I tried to roll them up to check the windows, but the customer said that the windows were not operational and he would make a note of the car and excuse in case someone came knocking with questions. No one ever did. Besides, most 20% tint sold is not really 20% once it's on the car. We were told to give people a 2.5% cushion as well. So if you came in and your tint measured 22.5% then you were good to go.

I haven't been turned away in the last 12 years, and I almost never go to the same place year after year. I guess just luck of the draw...

We turned away every car that had windows that didn't work. Guess it just depends on the shop.

If you are worried about pulling the fuse, just get a pair of untinted windows from the salvage yard and swap them out for the inspection. Or if you want to avoid that hassle just find a friend willing to let you borrow his legal windows.

That's too much trouble ^. You only need inspection once a year, what's a few extra dollars

Will that window fuse trick work if you get pulled over and they are already down?

I agree swapping windows is way to much work. I'd rather take the tint off and pay to have it redone.

If your car is tuned so that there's no check engine light (rear o2 sensors, egr, air, etc turned off) you'll pass the emissions scan. All OBD2 cars have to be scanned to pass, not sniffed.

As far as passing the visual, you'll either have to find someone friendly enough to not look, or do what I'm about to do and pick up some stock cats, gut them, and weld the shell around your pipe so that it looks like there are cats on it. I'm thinking though that instead of going to that much trouble I'll just put a catted y-pipe from TSP on there...

As far as the windows, a couple of years ago my brother was driving some POS '87 Accord and had it broken into. Smashed driver's side window. Took it to get it inspected before replacing the window and had 3 shops in Austin turn him away even though there was NO tint anywhere else on the car. Sounds like it really is luck of the draw.

Get one of these filled out by you and your doctor. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/Interne...Forms/VI-4.pdf

Have him/her write you a script for photo sensitivity and then fax that info to the number below. Took them about a week to send me my exemption form.

Haha! I actually suggested that to my wife some time ago, but she never took it any further.

She wants darker than legal tint on her MB C350, but I told her that I'm not going to start fiddling with inspection for the tint being too dark.

Tried it. There is also no law stating the inspector must inspect your car. He told me to get lost.
