Default Heard a rumor about HP tuners

Is it true they gave the EPA the vin numbers of diesel trucks using their software?

And if by some hypothetical reason the EPA gets ahold of the vin numbers, they cant do **** with them. Only DOT can deny you re certification.

This is likely referencing Edge products and their recent court settlement. The EPA is fining them, and making them attempt to purchase back any of their DPF delete kits. These systems have been deemed illegal for sale now.

Info: http://www.epa.gov/enforcement/air/c...eproducts.html

Looks like I'll be keeping my non-DPF diesel 2006 5.9L!

EPA are a bunch of ********. They need to be after large corp's burying barrels of waste chemicals and not chasing after performance enthusiast. ELF damn near destroyed Bryan, TX in the 80's, but know ever heard about it except the locals who either contracted a deadly disease or their kids died from the gasses that were trapped in the house.

Can't see why any company would even start to store VIN's(complete VIN anyway) in the 1st place. Even so, why would the EPA want them when they've got real issues to deal with... like how to fool people into thinking the EPA should be relevant to the public, or... why it's important to "clean the air" with vehicle engines even though doing it their way ONLY uses more fuel for every vehicle equipped with the crap they tell us helps the world.

As to the question of when diesels began having to be tested, well that's not the issue. The fact is, all new diesel powered on road vehicles, including 3/4 ton and up, are required by law to use fuel wasting technology in (a lame and useless) attempt to "save fuel" and clean the air. The reality is, ALL of those trucks use more fuel than their identically equipped counterparts NOT using the same fuel wasting parts, like DPF and the "regeneration" process designed to clean the DPF.

Maybe you guys calling the OP out should do a little looking into the story so you might be able to help rather than simply look like asses.

I did a google search, thanks. Hp tuner, EPA, vin, yielded no results. Feel free to explain how this gets me attention I'm so deprived of.

Unlike you my dad loves me so I have no need for extra attention.

None of it makes sense. So I can't go buy a 2013 Cummings and make it an off road only race truck?

No you cannot. There is no "g" in Cummins, so there's no chance.

You could go buy a Dodge with a turbo diesel and make it an off-road only race truck. You'd have to make sure it isn't registered as a road use vehicle, of course.

If the sales pitch for these off-road parts states they are for off-road use only and/or not legal for highway use, there should be no penalty for selling the parts. The buyer should then assume all responsibility.

I come across a wide variety of people at my restaurant. One I have not talked to for some time that used to be in the know with a lot of high up people told me this. Apparently he is no longer in with the right people. I came here asking not saying because I know someone will know. I have a resource and used it. Now I know. Thanks for your vast amount of knowledge in the thread by the way.

Evidently this will come as a massive shock to you, so remain seated if necessary... There IS a world OUTSIDE of the internet! Food for thought, NOBODY needs to find information or rumors on the internet for them to have been started. Some people still speak by means other than the web. Lay off him already, lest you show that you, perhaps instead of him, lack common sense.
