Default Pulling an Oklahoma trailer in Texas .. question

I have searched google, etc but can't find a specific answer to this, so I am hoping someone here knows or can point me in the right direction.

I have a bunch of stuff I need to haul between Oklahoma City and Houston the next few months and had planned on borrowing my brother's trailer to do the hauling.

He lives in OKC and Oklahoma doesn't require registration or inspection of non commercial utility trailers.

Is there an issue with pulling an untagged and unregistered Oklahoma trailer in Texas with my Texas tagged truck?

The texas tagged truck is what is going to get you. I'm pretty sure that the laws that apply to the truck also apply to the trailer. So if it's oklahoma tagged truck, then the trailer is under oklahoma laws.

DPS (state troopers) might stop you but stay on the speed limit and you should be ok They usually only stop the bone heads.

I will have the bill of sale with his name on it, and the letter the State of Oklahoma provides to carry with the bill of sale stating they don't require registration.

Just trying to avoid getting impounded during one of the trips.

Print and carry:

SC doesn't require plates on trailers either but we have the option to buy a permanent plate which I did expressly for situations like you are in. Your brother has the same option it looks like for $7 a year. FWIW if you use a year of manufacture tag (like I have on my old cars) you get a similar letter to carry in the car with your registration in case you get pulled over.

DPS would not impound you just write lots of tickets.

I haul my buddies trailer down here quite often, its an Oklahoma trailer. I dont think the Cops give a **** as long as your not racing the semi's down the highway! Dont draw attention to yourself if your that concerned, other wise I dont think Texas law cares.

As stated, bring your paperwork with you.

TX laws depend on the size of the trailer. If it is narrower than your truck, no tags needed.

Just tell your brother to write you a bill of sale each time you pull it and if you get pulled over tell the cops you just bought it and are going to register it when you get home.
