This post inspired me to ask a buddy (po po). He said he just did the legal updates class yesterday and the front plate law has changed. I asked him what it was they changed and he said it was complicated (texts). So I simplified it and asked if I still needed to run a front plate on my car, he said he wouldn't. He said that anyone that payed attention in the updates class wouldn't mess with me.
I ended the convo by thanking him and calling him a pig

Same here about 3 weeks ago by a bored Harris County Sheriff Deputy, but I think he was just trying to catch me ridin' dirty and failed, but thanks for the warning though.

In 9 days you can start getting fined for no front plates again.

It doesnt necessarily say you can get a ticket for no FRONT plate but the way I read it was having no plates at all?

either way, youre not seeing a front plate on my car.

If you look at the transportation code in full, not just the amendment I posted, it elaborates on what the fine is applicable to, which is not having either the front or rear license plate. Basically the line they deleted from the code two years ago is being added back in, so in terms of license plate laws, things are as they were pre-Sept 2011.

Wow... Seems like at least the Denton PD is hard at work earning their money.

It's now, what, third day after the new law took effect that you can be find for not having a front plate? Guess there's no leniency with these guys since they just hit my 18-year old daughter with the stupid fine.

Just wow...

Nah... If it was my truck, then yes, but not for my daughter. I don't want cops harassing her about it in the future now that they have a way to collect.

Hence the plate is now on with zip ties until I figure out a neater way to do it.

Well... I mean I will, of course, check and ask tomorrow to dismiss it when I call the court since it has only been three days and the plate is now on. I would imagine it shouldn't be an issue, but we'll see...

This is what my SO buddy sent me:

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the number of license plates to be issued for and
displayed on motor vehicles.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 504.011 to read as follows:
Sec. 504.011. ISSUANCE AND DISPLAY OF LICENSE PLATE. (a)
Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, the
department shall issue only one license plate for attachment at the
rear of the vehicle for which the plate is issued.
(b) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, a
person is entitled to operate on a public highway a vehicle that
displays only one license plate if the plate is attached at the rear
of the vehicle. A person may operate on a public highway a vehicle
that displays two license plates if both plates were assigned by the
department for the registration period as a set of plates.
(c) In any provision of this code that relates to the
issuance or display of "license plates," "plates," or a "set of
plates," the term means only one license plate.
SECTION 2. Section 504.943, Transportation Code, is amended
by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (e) to read as
follows:
(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a passenger car, light
truck, road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does
not display a license plate that:
(1) has been assigned by the department for the
period; and
(2) complies with department rules regarding the
placement of license plates.
(e) In this section, "light truck" and "passenger car" have
the meanings assigned by Section 541.201.
SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act regarding the
issuance of license plates by the Texas Department of Motor
Vehicles applies only to the issuance of license plates by the
department for a registration period beginning on or after the
effective date of this Act.

You will get two. The text you referred above is NOT a law.

The legislative session has already ended. Anything that was in committees at that time is dead. Looks like we will have to wait two more years and try again.
