Well...... Back to civilian life.
I've been in the navy (mostly with the marines) for 6 years, and I'm getting out to work for with my father-in-law and eventually take over the business when he retires.
I can't say i've loved every minute of it, but the memories and experiences changed me forever, and i wouldnt change a damned thing if i could go back in time.

Me too. Did 6 years as well, mostly with marines. Been out two and a half years now. I kinda regret getting out. Civillian life is way more boring. You going to school? Im loving that GI Bill. I would highly recommend you join the reserves. I did it for the health cpverage and once a month isnt really that big of a deal. Plus you get to keep your retirement and benefits.

I thought about doing the reserves, but it would take too long to regire that way, and i can't worry about drilling or deploying with the new job.
My wife will get a job as an accountant, and we'll have insirance through her.

Reserves is great. I was an AD2 before but had to change to LS. Almost killed myself but it isn't all that bad. I got attached to a unit that deploys to Japan and I don't have to do any LS stuff. You have 6 yrs so retirement wouldn't be that long. You better use the free school before you get too old to be taught anything. You're gonna be kicking yourself in the *** if you dont

Ha welcome back. Currently in the reserves now. Im with 98TA6.0 all the way. The reserves can be cool sometimes but some of things you have to do will drive you bat ****! You get the good and the bad of both worlds in the reserves.

Whoa serious? I had to jump through some fiery hoops to get in as well. I was an aircraft mech but I had to come in as supply because my job was unavailable. It's funny bc even though I had 6 yrs in, the recruiter still treated me like a boot. WTF we were the same rank. Took almost four. Months and had to go back to MEPS three times

Lol. My recruiters treated me like "one of the boys" so that was nice. Only had to go to MEPS once and was always ushered to the front of the line.
Stars on my shoulders that I got while IN Okinawa they called Russian gang symbols, and obviously my sleeve wouldn't be covered while in PT gear...
It's just ridiculous.
General Mattis would have been the best Commandant the Corps ever had. Too bad he was "let go" for a lack of better terms,
Anyways OP, welcome back to 1st Civ Div.

Thank you for your service! I just re-enlisted for another 6 in the Reserves... have 11.5 with the Army and 2 tours. 1 in AFG and the other in Iraq. Only 8 more and I can retire! I'll be 37 when the letter hits the mail.

I should have a relativelyeasy time transitioning to civilian life again, since i was 24 before i joined anyway. I do need to be less abrasive and maybe start giving a **** about people's feelings a little more though..... According to the wife.

That's the hard part. I miss the rank and "shut up and put up." This civillian stuff is too crybaby. Although it's fun talking to some of these guys. It's become cool to be a veteran that some people actually lie about their service. It's even funnier finding that moment where you can point them out and shut them down. It seems to be a weekly occurrence bc I go to school and deal with some real soup sandwiches.
