Default north tx guys, who does your heads

Who in the north tx area are you guys trusting to mill heads, valve job and set them up in the area.

I don't want to use most local machine shops or city motor supply as most don't know jack about these heads.

thanks

I know there's a bunch of good dudes who work heads around here. My dad, my brother, and myself...we always take our stuff to Lloyd Elliott in Red Oak. He does all types of heads. He doesn't really advertise anywhere anymore bc enough people know about him he's usually not desperate for work. Typically 3-4 weeks out but if youre in a hurry he'll work with you.

Now he doesn't actually mill and do valve jobs himself but I fully trust whoever he has do them. Last I heard he was using Trevor Johnson but this was a long time ago, idk if that's who he still uses. We've probably had him do 10-12 sets of heads from LS 241's, to LT1 heads, Trick flow, AFR, and they've all turned out great. He charges $200 to mill, valve job, clean, and assemble. He'll make you a good deal on porting too.

Best thing to do is call him and just see what he says.

Had a guy here in Haltom named Mike Yelvie or something like that mill my AFR heads and he did a run threw of them. He did good work and came highly recommended.

Whats your combo and what was your Tq? Every car I've seen thus far has been off by about 50whp and 65lbft tq.
He did my heads and spec’d the cam for Erl bottom. I would not use him again

Thanks guys, Im trying to find numbers for some of the people you mentioned. I really looking for a basic small port/clean up, mill 20-30thou and valve job. Really easy but I've heard a lot of stories of others killing there heads over porting and removing crap they shouldn't and killing low end/mid and having a useless set of top end only heads for the street.

If a minor port, clean, valve job, and mill are what you are looking for I suggest Lloyd Elliot. I just had a set done and he was great to deal with even after pestering him too much.

Chris Fowler took my 241's off of my former Firehawk and ported them to flow 300cfm.... Like you, I didn't want to spend a ton of $$$ on the 241's... PM me and I can get you in contact w him... He is local, and knows his ****. He custom built my 414ci stroker for my C5Z... He sent my 799's off to TEA and they did a complete Stage 3 port.

Chris is in the McKinney area.....

Before I state the facts I just need to make sure this is Wes who had Quality Motorsports build the combo? Who ever this is you must be misinformed . Because I'd like you to name the people who I've done heads and cam for and they are 50rwhp and 65tq off. Off from who's numbers? I've never had a single person in 10 yrs call me and tell me this info.

You may want to curb that comment. There's more than one of us.... 3 come to mind.

Since this experience, I've run across similar stories and I know at least 3 builds aside from mine that are grossly off in power and you yourself told me that your cam an my PRC heads ported by you would have no problem making 600 whp. It didn't, not even close but if you're that confident in them you're welcome to buy them back.
I'm not happy about the situation at all.

Chris, I'm not trying to trash your business and maybe you've done great work for others, but your work simply did not preform and I have come to find out that there are many others in the same boat.
And Quality did call you.

Jp, please tell me who they are. Because the problem I have with this entire deal at Quality is they have told me that the only cars there having issue with are all ERL bottom ends. I want to know why 5 other shops have no problem making the power with the exact same heads. You have had two sets of my heads. You blamed the heads so being the guy I am standing behind my product. I sent you our stage 1 head which usually makes less than the stg two you had. The funny thing is the stage 1 picked up almost 30 rwhp on your combo. If that doesn't tell you there is a problem somewhere else what does. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this. Quality has used my heads for two years now making anywhere from585-610 rwhp. Then your build was the first ERL build so you requested the chambers to be large. Your car did not make the number. So you buy a new cam it still doesn't make the power. Then Doug from quality calls me and says the car makes the power if you take the exhaust off. They said the Cats and your exhaust were a big restriction. So I'm wanting to get to the bottom of this. It's strange that the same exact heads can go on cars in Houston, North Carolina, Kentucky and all make about 590-605 rwhp but the last three quality ERL short blocks are not doing it.
