Default WTB Car hauler

I took the Datsun to the track for the first time Friday night.. Now I'm hooked. Anyone selling a good "cheap" car hauler?

Yeah seems to be the same for everything in life.. Oh well maybe I'll get lucky. I found a few brand new ones here in Houston for like $1500

Yep. It seems like used are the same price as new.

Not all new area created equal. There are a couple threads here in the TX section with more details.

Are you interested in renting one instead of buying?

I have one with 8 ft long aluminum ramps that isn't getting used enough, I considered selling but would be willing to rent it out for weekends or longer.

It was cheap and close to my house (cypress) than yeah probably. The whole reason I'm looking to buy one is becuase I'm tired of spending $60 at uhaul.

So I know its not really cheap or used but I can get a deal on new trailers. I currently have one 18' car hauler left. I can cut a deal on it if you want it pm me.

There are huge differences between a $1500 and a $2000 tailer. Spend the money its totally worth it.

This is what my 18' looks like. I like the 18 over the 16 for the money because it gives you a little more space.

The 18 ft trailers are much nicer, unfortunately most of the HOA's in Houston won't let you put a trailer in your driveway. If you live in the burbs, you either need to be lucky enough to have access to your back yard, or have storage available somewhere else.

I got around the issue by getting a 14' deck trailer, it will just barely fit into the typical Houston garage. At least this way I can keep it at my house and not have the HOA on my *** all the time...

My car is tiny so that really doesn't matter to me. Hell if I could find a 13ft trailer I would use that. Luckily I can keep my trailer at work.

I spent more than I wanted. I was looking for 1500$ for a car hauler. Then was ok with 2000$, but ended up spending more for a 20 footer that was well worth it for 2200$. Diamond plated, American axles were swapped in, and it was only a year old.

I really want to spend less than 2k.. Problem is like everyone says, even the used ones are $1500..

This one has my attention.

I had a thread up a while back when looking. Evidently those are a get what you pay for trailer. Low quality and used tires at that price.

I don't want to push you but best advice is spend the extra. I am glad I did time and time again. I hated going over the budget but it is a solid investment in the long run.

Mine is from trout tire and they are in porter down the road from me. So if you find a used one from them, awesome. I just don't want you to regret not spending that little extra and get more for your dollar. Just from my experience it's not a disappointment. That is of course if you have the cash. I don't want to assume you have money just laying around, but in the end I am glad I didn't "settle" for a wooden deck that will fail eventually or a shorter trailer that would have been better if it was longer, ect.

Well im no bill gates but im not struggling either. realistically $2500/3k is doable. Are there some key feautures besides a metal deck that i should consider? or be on the look out for? besides the length and material used for the deck, what makes a good trailer a good trailer?

C channel and not angle. American axles over Chinese if possible. Dove tail and hide away ramps are pretty much a must. If you get a deal with one equipped with a winch, even better.

Those are off the top of my head.

bought mine new at Trailer Wheel and Frame on 45. 18' diamond plate, Channel wrap around tongue(very important), open middle (easier to turn down would be borrowers),ramps, new cheapo depot tires. Drive out was $1760. It was a few years ago right after iron and every damn thing else went through the roof.

As everyone mentioned. C Channel. Not angle. I personally like brakes on both axles. Check for places to hook straps and tie the vehicle down.

Wiring on almost all trailers is crap so don't get too hung up on that.

Crawl under and see if they painted the underside.

New Wheels and Tires!!! I don't know how many people I have run into that took used to save $100-$200 and had a blowout the first time they used it and had to spend $400+ on new wheels and tires.

Measure the width of the deck / between the fenders. Not all are the same width. Determine how wide you want to be able to get your car up there, get in/out, etc.

I think most ramps are similar, but at least make sure they look like they will work with your car and are reasonable length.
