Ignition and door key replacement Think I remember that you could take the title for the vin on a car to get keys made at the dealer right? My wife lost her keys and the trans am will sit till I get more made. Rather not swap ignitions and door keys if I don't have to.
That is correct. Most dealers will take an insurance card as ownership verification. Just remember, if the VATS module has been changed by anyone over the years and didn't relay the message you are screwed. You will have to have a tuner turn off the VATS and just change the tumbler.
No need to change the cylinder (tumbler) as long as the original key pattern is still with the car. I have ran across cars that still use the same key resistance and a different cut on the key.
