Ok fellas I'm looking to end up in or around the San Antonio area once I am done with my military career of 20 yrs.right now I'm looking into being a trooper once I'm out.i was curious if any of you guys had some insight or other jobs worth looking into. Oil rigs, TSA, UPS, fedx etc etc.
I figured you would already have the idea but maybe be tired of it. Only thing stopping me from doing the full time police thing is having a current job that is Tuesday through Friday 4 and to 2:30. Really hard to leave such a great schedule.
Man, I only get 21.50 an hour and I'm in a warehouse. So it is not all that, just easy work since I'm a mechanic and I'm good at what I do. I know other placed repairing the DC lifts and everything pay more from what I have heard.
If I would ever go back to school id prolly do kinesiology or something along those lines,im 36 right now 39 when I retire,I need to jump into my next career asap.i wouldn't mind working at a nice mechanic shop I know basics.. Anyone know the owner of Texas speed?? Lol
Ummmm dude welcome to 1st civ div. Where you aren't special and your quals and duty are worthless. A kinesiology degree will land you right into retail along with business and history majors. Perhaps it's a good idea to get ahead of the game and get cents or educated before you get out. It's sickening how many people get out and go right to work. I did 6 and currently in the reserves while attending engineering school. i got out while the getting was good. You only get dumber, fatter, slower, and busier the older you get. If I chose to retire my options would be contractor and that's only good for so long.

I felt that same way but even If you where enlisted in a legitimate job field there aren't a lot of jobs the military offers that transition straight to the public sector besides technology, medical, and engineer type stuff.
OP atleast look into some fields you would like to pursue because its almost like a hobby. No point in making 50-100k a year if your hating your job.
I got out and got a degree in network communications, some positions you can just get a certification and you are set for some pretty good money just depends on what you wanna do.
yep but he has the oppurtunity for free school so he would be a fool to walk right into filling out job apps.better tobe broke fora few years and set yourself upfor a comfortable. id choose a bulletproof career given your age and the need to hit on the first shot. thats why i chose engineering. medical, engineering or skilled cert will keep you employed very well.
Yea I know military experience doesn't really transition well in the civilian world that I knew a few years ago.only reason I stayed for the 20 is for my family to get the benefits.i know it's VA but at least it's something.ill have the full benefits so no need for to do reserves, that's why I was looking into DPS,it kinda parallels the military in a way, schedule, hours etc, I'll get a pay cut for the first few years. after 4 yrs in, it will be manageable, not looking to earn 100 g's a year even though that would be nice but with a year of school under my belt I highly doubt it will happen.over 60 a year I can deal with that.well guys keep the ideas coming.
They usually hire highly certified experienced guys. I know guys who work on exotics with A&P license. I got mine while I was in and it's a great thing to fall back on if I need.
exotics is to much, I'm fine with just LS engines.i had my TA I got pretty familiar with it.only thing I didn't do was the tune that's one thing I couldn't get a grasp on.
