Default Cops/Inspections for Bumper Exit Downpipe

I ran into a snag with my down pipe going out the k-member on my turbo setup and I may go out the passenger fender now.

In North Dakota they don't even have a visual inspection on vehicles. I'm curious what Texas will be like when I move there in June.

Do you get harassed by the cops if you have a bumper exit/loud exhaust?

It seems like most "know someone" for the state inspection sticker. Is that still the case?

Pretty sure I'll be running mine out the fender when the time comes. As long as it is not loud like the NA fender exits, you won't catch too much attention.

those inspections are getting tougher to get. either way its pretty likely you will get a ticket depending where you live. here in Austin, you would be a ticket collector with that.

It exits the passenger compartment of the vehicle so that's ok. Turbo is an accepted muffler in Texas so that's ok. The main issue would be lack of catalytic converter.

Getting the sticker would def be an issue unless you can find someone that will do it or some inspector that just plugs in to the OBD II port and does not do the visual inspection.

Also might be a issue if you run into a cop that knows cars and likes writing tickets.

Thanks for all the replies.

I was looking at the Texas Department of Public Safety website and it looks like for military members, they only need emissions testing for certain counties:

-This includes vehicles registered in Texas and vehicles registered in all other states

-If your military installation is located in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, El Paso, Travis, or Williamson county, your vehicle is subject to the I/M program testing guidelines.

I'm moving to Wichita falls in Wichita county, so I don't think ill need to get emissions tested.

I'm not sure if I can keep my North Dakota vehicle registration though.

You won't have to get it smog tested up there. However the inspection station is supposed to look for modification to factory emissions equipment. I would thing you could make a down pipe with a cat in it that would be easy to take off and reinstall the open one after the car was inspected. Just an idea. Once or if the car is failed it's way harder to get a sticker. Every inspection station has record of it failing and what it failed for.

If the car is registered out of state, do you still have to get it inspected if you live in Texas? I was trying to read through the DMV website, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I'm still a resident of Missouri (home state), so im not sure if I can keep the car registered in North Dakota when I get stationed in Texas.

If the car stays registered with current out of state plates I think it'll be fine. That's not to say you can't be harassed by Leo's for Texas laws, but as far as it being "legal" you should be fine. We get away with a lot of **** here that would get your car impounded and you locked up in more liberal states.

Thanks for the replies. I'll ask the muffler shop in town how much of a difference it will be to run the DP through the K-member vs going bumper exit. It's only going to cost $200 for the bumper exit, but then ill need to buy the $20 4" ring for the outside of the car and the $30 radiator overflow catch can.

If it's only a little more ill probably just have them run the DP through the k-member and add a cutout before the stock SLP catback.

Thanks for the replies and ill update after I get exhaust installed!

if your car is registered in another state you do not have to get your car inspected. If that was the case then people that travel through Texas would have to get their car inspected before doing so which obviously is not plausible.

however you are suppose to register your car when you move but if you are military im sure you will be fine.

Donate to the local policeman's ball or any of their other charitable events that gets you a decal. Place said decal on the driver side of your rear window in plain sight. If pulled over, give them your military ID along with your license and never worry about a ticket. Heck, they may even get one of their hot female officers to give you a handy j.

As far as I know this goes for all Military members. If you home of residence is North Dakota, then your vehicle has to meet the registration and inspection of your home state/county/city, not the place you are stationed in. I was stationed in 29 Palms, CA and was harassed by every CHP that saw my truck, I cant even count how many times I was pulled over, but never ticketed cause my truck was registered in TX. (1994 SBC powered S10, carb'd, no emission stuff what so ever, in southern Cali). Too add to this, a State inspection is only needed in that particular state, so I never had a state inspection on my S10 or my daily 04 Silverado while I was in the service, until I came home for leave.

Now this may have changed since I got out in 09'

There was one that was cool, he pulled me over just cause he liked my truck and was bored. We always had bonfires in our back yard and the "no burn" law was in effect and the CHP's tried to sneak up on us and got stuck, lol. we pulled them out and they never saw anything from that point forward
