I hate the worrying. I am not making a killing and never have. Just decent middle class pay. 19 years with the same company. I will unfortunately be finding out how loyal my company will be to me.
I worry every day if I will be next.

I just got an email that they canned 5 people for March. It seems to be going that way in a company that started with only 130. We are down to way less than 100.

I started with this company with 75 people. We were up to over 400 at one point and rumor is we're headed back south of 200 and maybe midway to 100! We're down to around 210ish currently cutting about 60 people so far this year alone.

We were going to hire a guy from Cameron... offered a 95K salary position, 45 hrs/week, 3 weeks paid vacation, stable company, not involved with Energy sector...

He turned us down... said he couldn't afford to take the pay cut...

I wonder if he understands what is going to happen when Schlumberger buys them...

I really don't understand people in oil & gas...they all seem to live on a different planet.

95 based on 40hr week or a 45hr week?

People are learning a hard lesson during this. He's likely going to regret not taking that deal I suspect if his current situation is that grim. I know I'm entertaining offers and wouldn't scoff at 95...

I'm in the transportation side of things out here in West Texas and there were a lot of guys who got used to making $4-500 per day hauling oil. Now that the price of oil is in the pooper the trucking rates are half of what they were at their peak, thusly so is driver pay. We have had a lot of guys come to us basically saying that they would "bless us" with their presence here if we could promise them $4-500 daily, we've tried to explain that those rates just don't exist anymore and they just can't believe it. Amazing how quickly people become accustomed to the high pay and put themselves in a position where they can't possibly take anything less.

We don't pay OT for salary positions. The pay is based on 40, but most mid level engineers work about 45. Mid level managers work 50-55

Yep, just oil. We are kind of scattered right now, just picking up barrels where and when we can. We are bidding a lot of contracts but it's insane how hard the rates have fallen. We lost a contract to a company recently who is hauling the oil at a pretty good loss just to get volume up in their pipes.

Yeah its crazy right now. I've heard several predictions that the industry will be this way until late 2017 or early 2018. Everything's basically frozen; raises, hiring, bonuses, OT and only up to 2% increase for ALL internal positions.

Good to know some non-oil field folks are still hiring.

These layoffs are scary.
