Htown commuting stick or auto?
Hey guys looking at a possible job change that will leave me commuting from out of town to various places all over Houston on a daily basis. I'll have to buy a vehicle and they have a 5 year old max limit and 100K max allowable mileage and they pay mileage so I am looking at new when I purchase.
Larger question at hand though is a stick for above driving manageable or forget it and go auto route. Kinda thinkin along lines of Camaro mustang challenger V8 of course. Thoughts or ideas I love driving a stick and have dealt with them in traffic but job change would make it everyday in traffic and that sometimes changes everything.

Auto is better for daily driving to work and back (stop and go traffic can be rough on the clutch), but I had a stick in my Corvette when I first moved to Houston, it never was an issue. IT just got old holding in the clutch in stop and go traffic.

I am on a similar program, vehicle allowance plus mileage following that the vehicle meets within a point system stipulation, X points per thousand miles and X point per month of age up to certain allowable limit of points. How ever the program has certain adherence guide lines in regards to the type of vehicle qualifiers for the allowance, has to have 4 doors, also have to have certain insurance coverage's to be used for business purposes. Depending on what you'll be doing I think would dictate what kind of car you would want, manual would be fun but for city of Houston I would get an auto if you're going to be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on a daily basis.

I would get a 2015 GT and MT82 and never looks back, it doesn't suck nearly as much as they used to. Mustangs make very comfortable and practical daily drivers, I contemplate getting rid of my FRC every day for a 5.0 just because C5's are a pain in the *** sometimes for daily driving.

I'll have to check but this is a program they just started and haven't ironed out all of the details yet. As of now the only 2 that were discussed are year and mileage.
Guess if I had to go 4 door route a charger RT is about all that's affordable in the bang for buck in the 4 door class with a V8. Good call GM make a SS make it cost 50K dumbasses. I've been eyeing a mustang more and more. I had a 13 I really enjoyed but unloaded it due to needed home repairs. It just kills me to buy one with 2 pedal but I know deep down that's probably the right call. I am wanting something that runs great in as delivered form with a warranty and will try my best not to start modding on it.

Daily drove manual since I was 16. Company car is auto (Genesis sedan) so I daily an auto now lol
What are the requirements for your vehicle and how much do they pay back? Unless you NEED a higher end car or they are going to pay back higher rate than most companies, I'd look into an economy beater for the grind and keep the sports car toy.

.55 a mile and 150 monthly use stipend. Call me a idiot I went and drove a 15 v6 camaro and was quite surprised it ran damm near as good as my stock LT1 way back when. I honestly think I could daily that no problem. He could get me into a camaro 1Lt with a auto for 22 + TT&L. Anyone know what a good price is these days on a new v6 camaro.
Camaros rated at 30 on highway and cruze is rated at 38-40. Anyone know if a v6 camaro driven sanely on 1.5 hour drive to houston can knock down 30. I realize once I get to town it goes down but if it actually hits 30 thats a in for the win there
Or lookin at a chev cruze, honda civic, or a yota corolla as candidates also.

16 V6 Camaro runs 13.7@103. That's pretty damn close to LS1 times. Don't know why you'd bother with a 15 Camaro at this point, once the 16 is out they'll be dying to get them off the lots. He's just trying to do it early, which only screws you.

I know it sucks but IMO I'd DD an auto around Houston especially if your gonna have to drive inside the loop a lot. 10, 45, 59, & 610 spend a good portion of the day looking like a parking lot. Even if you have the stick you can't really enjoy it in those conditions. I didn't even like bringing my stalled A4 TA inside the 610 loop. That's just me though.....

Stick is for a fun car, auto is for a DD. Exception is if you're not dealing with traffic on your commute. Houston traffic is almost as miserable as DC and NYC traffic, which are hellacious

I have a couple months until I have to buy. Once I start they said they'll put me in a rental till I can get a car bought so that gives me some time to look and drive stuff. That's heck of it my drive will take me to multiple daily places within houston on a daily basis so theres no telling where I will be. In the end whatever I buy needs to be something I can take anywhere without frustration in traffic.
Is there any real reason to hold off for a 16 camaro if all I am looking at is a v6. The 15 I drove was nice I like it over the little cars because the seats are more comfortable, the ride feels more planted, it gains just enough size to be bigger than a smaller car and imho it's designed to be planted into a wall at triple digits should the worst happen and protect the driver since it's same body structure v6 or v8.
I have my truck and TA for fast cars so this is more a comfy safe DD with decent mileage is the end goal.
So it's down to a camaro v6 I think or a cruze, focus, or a civic maybe a yota
