Default What do you do with your old car parts?

I take my used oils to places like AutoZone
I take my used coolant to an actual shop
I take my old tires to places like Discount Tire

I am starting a scrap metal pile and will make a trip eventually.

But after that, I am not sure of where to take stuff like hoses and belts and other old parts that can either be taken apart and repaired or melted down and turned into something new. Surely there has to be a better place for these items than the landfill.

Is there a place for these items besides the landfill?

i forgot to mention those. I've got some stuff im planning on selling and have a free parts thread here as well. i understand that im not always going to find a home for old parts but youd think there would be a way to get these items recycled or repurposed or something as opposed to just putting them in the dump.

There's always someone who wants/needs your old OEM valve covers you replaced with your $$$ aftermarket ones.

And people who need your F-body exhaust manifolds for a tight fit into their swap vehicle, after you have replaced them with fancy tube headers.

And some people keep parts for trading material for something they might need down the road.

I'm sure you can turn up someone to prove me wrong here, but I would like to think that the only people who pull off functional OEM parts and throw the parts across the garage, on the way to the dump are those people on the weekend car building shows.

While I have your attention anyone want an Stock LS1 harmonic balancer? Nothing wrong with it, been sitting in my garage for years after I replaced it with an under-driven pulley.

Free, but you must come pick up (no shipping). NW Houston 77095.
