Not really but my friend who helped had wrapped old 18 wheeler trailers before that were getting sold at his work. For prep we took all the old decals off, lights, latches, etc. Then pressure washed it and cleaned it a couple times with purple power and simple green. Once it was clean would take the screws out one panel at a time and wrapped it and then put in new screws over the wrap. We also wiped each panel down with acetone before we wrapped it since it was a day between washing it and actually wrapping it. I sold the trailer last year and it had been wrapped since 2010 and still looked good as new and had been sitting outside all this time.
I did mine last summer and got it metro restyling.. All i can say is dont overuse the heat gun.. Try and do as much as you can without using heat.. Mine wasnt the best but it was my first time.
It took me a couple months but i was working on it maybe 3-4 hours a weekend.. I think i could have had it done in 16-20 hrs.. And price wise. I dont remember but want to say it was about 350-400$. i underestimated how much i needed and had to make another order.. I believe i used about 40-50' of it
I'm toying with wrapping my car instead of painting it, but I want to go for a complete color change either way.
As much as I want to learn, I don't have the tools nor the guidance to even begin working with paint & body. But I've seen some wraps that were done nicely at a fraction of the cost and prep time to paint a car.
Because I love to DIY, the more I can do and learn on my own, the better.
Look for high-grade cast vinyl wraps. They are very sturdy and durable. Note that some companies, including 3M, make several types of vinyl, so be sure to choose one designed specifically for automotive use.
