High pitched whine
High pitched whine I just had to replace an alternator on my car. I bought a new on and installed it and now I have a high pitched whine that increases with rpms. When the igniter is unplugged the whine is not there any thoughts?

When the original alternator started making that noise and went out I was at the small tire nationals and had all kinds of people staring me down. Had one dude ask what blower I had on it...
Now I'm in the spot where I need to pull the engine that's in it and fix it or find a decent replacement motor to swap in since mine has dropped oil pressure, has excessive blow by and taps way to much. Can't do that however since I just paid finished paying last semesters college tuition and empty my bank account to do that. Hince why I have the for sale ad in the sale section trying to sell some of my other things.

Had the same thing happen to me. Original alternator started making high pitch whine, sounded like it was coming from audio speakers. Then my car died while I was driving. Had new alternator and battery installed. Whine still continues as soon as you start the car and then the sound gets louder as RPMs increase. Dealership basically shrugged their shoulders and said everything is working properly.

When you say new alternator, does that mean a "new" one from Autozone or Oreilys? If so I went through 3 of them in a month one time. Ended up taking it back and going to the dealership and buying one never had a problem again. Oriellys. I Was looking at doing the truck alternator but was worried about the wires garage and mounting it since I'm an iron block now. I drilled and tapped the mounting hole for the bracket but there is still 1 hole that isn't used on the block besides the mount on the back of the alternator
