Default Texas Weather

Figured I'd post up the challenges faced while dealing with Mother Nature. I get excited when things like this pop up gladly accept the challenge and FINALLY! After more than 15 years of living in Montgomery, the family and I got to see some significant snow..

Been nothing but preparation for the coming weather and I've been doing nothing but looking after things ever since. We lost our well around 2AM Monday morning and finally the power around 3AM and DAMN IT I should've started the generator before waiting until 3am to fire it off Well after several tries pulling on the SOB I was beginning to think the damn thing wasn't gonna start but finally it started..

Anyways, we got power back around 1AM today so when woke up my mission was get our well back. I found a broken pipe and got that fixed and now trying to thaw as much of everything I can out in hopes of having our water back tonight.

It was nice having the family together and not thinking about my work but with that being said it's time for me to get back to work.

Later....

Prepping is key when you know this type of weather is gonna hit.

We were prepped fairly well here in Tomball, but the city did not. All of their well controllers and chlorinators froze up, and we've been without water since Monday afternoon. Saying it might be Friday before they get them back online. Certainly is interesting at this point.

Was able to get the well back up and running yesterday and around 9PM the power goes out momentarily but stayed on until around 12AM before going offline. It came back on around 2AM and then back off at 6AM and now it's been on about an hour now.

Guess its their way of protecting the grid..

Yeah we’ve been without power since Monday here in Crowley. I too heard this is how they protect the grid. Sacrifice a few to save many.

We fortunately had power throughout this ordeal, and water too thank goodness. I made room in my garage for the daily and my TA, driveway ended up with 4 to 5 inches of snow. I cranked the TA last night and let it warm up to 120 or so as this is the first its been started in over a week.

The plumbers will have their work cut out as things start to thaw this weekend, hopefully everyone has identified any frozen pipes by now. The streets quickly have turned to ice rinks here in north DFW at sundown, I can't wait for Tuesday's weather to get here.

We were without power from 5pm Monday to 5:30pm wednesday. I drove 2.5 hours to borrow a generator and got back to the house about 15 minutes after the power came back on. Lol. I def have one on order now. Im guilty of blowing off the "storm of the century" as the typical Texas winter 2 days of some ice and flakes with little real problems. I'll be better prepared in the future. Hopefully building a house in the next few months and were not skimping on insulation and try to build it as self reliant as possible.

No complaints here. Wife, 3 dogs, 3 cats, plus me in suburban Tomball. Lost water first thing and we forgot to fill the tubs with water first Water back on late Tuesday with a boil notice and damn did a hot shower feel good. Had power on the whole time but a straight 19 hour stretch when we bunched up with the canine space heaters for warmth.

Overall we've survived much worse and thankfully no busted water pipes like my nearby family. Good luck to everyone needing a good plumber or PVC/PEX to patch serious leaks. Post back here if you find supplies!

Yeah, I think our Lowe's here in Tomball is tapped on supplies. I know of several on my street, including myself, that had our mains pop right before they came in the house.

Omega.. I too am thinking along the same lines regarding certain zip codes, grids. I am in Dallas.. North Dallas ( GB/Tollway) We never lost power, or water, gas.. Everyone around did.. We are actually < 1 mile from a Fire station, and maybe 2-3 miles from the DPD sub station off of Hillcrest.. Thankfully i drained my pool filter, pump reservoir prior to freeze....I was breaking up ice w a sledge hammer that was 4-5 inches thick!!

As of yesterday... filled the pump reservoir, primed the pump, backwashed, and the pool is perfect... No leaks, cracks, issues... I need to go buy a lotto ticket.. lol...

My 07 TBSS AWD performed flawlessly on the ice, snow... Never even broke traction...

Supposed to be 70 deg today... Gotta love TEXAS!!

We're getting the 70* degrees tomorrow here in the Carolina's, warmest day here since last November. I'm gonna sit out on the deck, pound down some cold beers and fire up the grill

Stay Strong Texas!
