Default Front license plate idea?

i saw a guys camaro who had his black plastic removed from behind his license plate area (not sure what its called). he had his license plate mounted directly to the red, painted surface.

i was thinking, if it was bent slightly, to conform to the lines inside of this area, how hard would it be to mount?? anybody have pictures of this done? it seems like it would be recessed a bit and not look so much like a beaver

i'm seriously considering trying this, how do you take that black plastic piece out?

oh well... cant possibly look worse than it does now

i'd love to just take it off, but if i got a ticket, i'd be one step farther away from buying stuff that really matters

I installed a billet grill and had to take my stock piece off, I think its called a fascia or something. there are two plastic bolts on the top and three press on fittings at the bottom. I worked for about 30mins trying to take the front bumper off (the proper way to reach the bolts) but stopped because it was a pain in the ***. Then just tried to unscrew the top bolts but they were almost impossible to reach and scratched my arms bad. I finally got pissed off and went to the front and just ripped it off. I think there were plastic "screws" with a metal nut and it just stripeed the screw a little but the nut threaded back on and held good. I would just suggest pulling the bottom part loose, and then pull the top part out one at a time keeping it staight.

hope this helps
Kenny

BTW, maybe try removing the fascia and cutting out a rectangle box for the plate, then bondo or whatever and make edges for it. then reinstal it so the plate is recessed behind the cover (sitting in a hole) but still outside and legal. Ive seen a lot of custon trucks do this on their back tailgate if you know what Im thinking of. I just thought of this and it sounds awesome, if I didnt have the grill allready I would do this

i tried to remove it the black plastic piece that connects to the red fascia today, the sides popped right out, as well as the bottom, but the top seemed like it was fastened differently. im talking about the areas a few inches to each side of the top of the license plate. pulled pretty damn hard but it felt like it was about to break somthing. am i mistaken? should i just go bonkers on it and yank it off?

i just yanked off the black one and then stuck the plate on there without drilling into the car and mounted my billet grille on top of it. it holds it in fine. i personally dont like the look of having the grille piece pulled of with nothing but a plate there. the mounting holes for the stock piece are an eyesore.
