Question for Aggies
Now, please answer this for me: On a hardhat used to memorialize the 12 students who lost their lives constructing Bonfire, is it really necessary to have an anti-UT sticker?
I understand and respect the traditions at A&M. I understand that UT and A&M are rivals. However, the deaths of these students was a tragedy to EVERYONE, not just A&M students, fans, and former students. It seems really childish and petty to try and put down UT while remembering students who LOST THEIR LIVES. Let go of your hatred for a few minutes! You might not realize it, but when the Bonfire fell, a LOT of UT fans were heartbroken. My wife and I both spent time in the Longhorn Band, which means we had a HUGE commitment to UT athletics. We both bleed burnt orange. And we both cried the day Bonfire fell. Put aside petty differences and remember that whether you're an Aggie, a Longhorn, a Sooner, a Horned Frog, or a Gopher, we're all humans.

Anti-UT = A&M pride... just like Anti-A&M = UT Pride. I fail to see whats wrong with that?
Our pride comes from within, not hatred.

I think the rivalry between UT and A&M has become more about respect in the past decade. When I was growing up, it was "my two favorite teams are Texas and whoever is playing A&M". Now, I think most Longhorn fans would like to see Coach Fran get A&M back to glory, and have UT beat OU, so T+1 settles the Big 12 South every year. With UT out of the mix for the past 5 years+, the game is more about bragging rights. If A&M beats us this year - a distinct possibility as A&M seems to be getting stronger and UT appears to be coasting - it might make the game more important to us again.

The Hex Rally holds a special place in my heart. In my last year at UT, I was a section leader, and a bunch of us got to go up to the top of the tower before it was officially re-opened. When the cheerleaders started giving a speech about UT, one of us started playing The Eyes of Texas (trumpet solo), then on the next round, we all joined in, then the rest of the band played on the 3rd go-round. It was pretty special, especially to be in the tower. I'm not sure if they ever fixed it, but when we were up there, you could still see the spots where they sloppily patched the bullet holes. It was very moving.

UT laughs at A&M...yet count the days down to T+1
A&M laughs at Tech...Yet goes nuts after kicking their *** after the last couple of losses
we have seen many longhorns on this forum alone counting the days down for T+1 then turn around and say the rivalry does not exist *COUGH* mmiller *COUGH*

I think a few people here are lying just to make the other look bad...lame
