Default Houston inspection

I'm deciding on if i should get 5% tint all the way around or go with the legal tint. I had 5% all the way around on my firebird and when i went to go get an inspection(rolled down the windows, pulled the fuse) the guy was trying to be a dick about it and say he wouldn't do the inspection unless i rolled up the window. He asked me to pull it up manually because the motor "didn't work", but I wasn't going to mess with the window. Luckily the owner new that i always went their for gas and told the guy to let it slide. Please PM me a place that doesn't bother with the windows because i just got a 99 Black TA and i think 5% looks the best on it, I'm going to get the tint done soon and just want to know if their is a place out their. I dont want to get anybody in trouble so PM me the response if there is one. Thanks

Ok, I just got my certification in this and asked the DPS guy that very question. Cars arn't required to have windows for inspection. So if the window is down & out then you can't check the tint, same deal as if the window wasn't even there.

I can understand why the guy was being a dick, he can get a ticket/jail time for like anything. I'm a dick when I inspect.

I didn't think you had to have your windows up either, thats why i was aggravated at the guy.

When you get certified they don't tell you everything. And if the guy didn't check that tint (under normal conditions) and one of those DPS reps was spying on him in another parking lot or it was an undercover DPS agent's car, he is liable to get a $300 ticket, lose his certification, and doubtful but possibly also see a little jail time.

The only reason I would of passed it was because I asked specifically that question. Next time something like that happens tell him to call up the DPS office, its what they're supposed to do when they have a question over something like that.

Here's something to think about: You go get inspected and pass with 25% tint, then drive off, get pulled over, and get a ticket for having under 35% tint. Go figure.

The only problem is that i dont want to have to go to a new inspection place every year, i'd rather just go to one place and that be it. But if i have to, I will. Thanks Will Clark for the suggestion about calling the DPS office.

You know I called them again today and got one of the female reps, I asked her a few questions I had on other stuff, then for the hell of it asked her this one again. She said that the windows would have to be "repaired" before the inspection can be done, so I dunno. Two different answers from two different reps.

from what I read, the new laws lowered the legal tint to 20%.

I don't know why the state inspection law would be any different than what the cops go by, we use 20% at our place...

I went to ALLOUT OFFROAD on hwy 6 because they merged with the place i used to get my tint done, and the guy said that 35% was the lowest i could go on the side windows. Has anyone got their t-tops tinted darker, i know they are already tinted a little but it would be nice to be able to block some of the sun coming in on the sunny days that are coming soon. The guy who was going to do my tint said that the tint might mess up the glass and it would be risky to do.
