The little emissions van is set up today at FM528 & IH45 (the cloverleaf if you're headed from 528 to 45N). Just missed it

think its a van parked on the side of the road that somehow checks to see if you have all the emissions crap on your car... if not BIG ticket...

 

I go through one all the time when i exit 610 to 288 south. Never gotten a ticket. Although there are cameras and **** set up everywhere. Maybe they can't ticket me because i live in Brazoria County?

 

i live in SA, but i have never heard of that ****??

Targeted On-Road Testing (Remote Sensing)
On-Road testing is used to target high-emitting vehicles commuting from adjacent ozone nonattainment counties. Targeted motorists are required to have their vehicle tested within 30 days of notification. The van-installed on-road testing equipment is strategically placed to capture auto emissions from single-lane traffic in an acceleration mode and is utilized in densely populated areas. On-Road testing will also be used as a program validation tool to test vehicles exiting from test and repair sites.

There uses to be a setup like that for a while at I-45 south and fm 517 I think, right by the on ramp to the freeway.

i've seen and drove through those things tons of times with no problem, and I don't have any emissions devices on my car whatsoever.

 

Heard about that when from a tech. when I was getting my exhaust worked on. Told me they can read emissions, but have not heard of anyone getting ticketed.

 

I drove by one (right where Seth is describing) a couple years ago. I got a notice in the mail to go to the nearest Harris County testing facility, and have my car tested or I could receive a fine. I put the stock catted h-pipe back on my mustang, drove to the testing facility, passed, drove back home, then immediately put my off-road h-pipe back on.

They don't look under your car. They sniff it as it passes by, and if they detect an illegal amount, they take a snapshot of your LP #, then send you a notice.

I also live in Brazoria county (where there were no emissions testing at the time) and they told me it didn't matter that I lived there. If I commute to Harris county, I am required to be up to date.

you'll know the van when you see it....and you'll also pass a huge yellow and black sign that says Emmisions Testing or some ****.....ive seen quite a few around this area.....never had any problems, even if they did ticket me, i would tell them to suck on my left ********...but my friend did get warned when he threw a cigarette butt outta his car...he gotta letter in the mail from the DPS saying that if a cop see's you do that you can get fined for littering.....those fuggers are sneaky little bastards..

 

Never had a problem with them. But yeah, just don't accelerate very hard (or push the clutch in). But do it a little while before, or you'll have your emissions cloud still following you through the sensors.
I wouldn't recomend turning the car off, your steering wheel will lock

 

There was also one heading into town on 290 at the entrance ramp right after Holister.

 

theres also one at 610 @ telephone rd getting onto 610. its been there on and off for like 5 yrs .

I see them off 10 all the time, just getting harder and harder now a days.

 

that van better not stay there too long or it will get towed and have to pay $75
