Electric Cutouts ????'s
Electric Cutouts ????'s I am thinking about getting a set of electric exhaust cutouts for my truck when I get my Bassani Headers next month. I will have to re-work the exhaust system ever so slightly, but I had planned on doing that anyways. My main question is, is this even legal to run in Texas, more importantly Houston? My truck is registered in Washington County, so I don't have to go through all the emissions testing, but..... I just don't want to get into any huge hassles, at least any more than usual with the inspection places. Also, will just any exhaust shops weld these up for me?

Well, according to the officer i got the ticket from (when he claims he saw my manual cutout) it is illegal to have anything that will bypass the muffler. However, I do plan on putting in the QTP that will work with the borla catback. So I guess, like the old saying goes, it's only illegal if you get caught.

Yeah, well, I'm not too concerned with the police catching me. I'm more concerned about not being able to get my truck inspected. I don't want to have to remove them and then replace them every time I have to have in inspected. Although, I guess I could always add flanges to the cutouts and then have some extra pieces of pipe flanged up to so I could swap out any time I need to right?

I am going to need 2 of since I've got duals all the way back. If so, pm me a price or whatever. I am hoping that sometime next month I will be getting a set of headers, looking at the Bassani Mid-Lenght Ceramic Coated ones. Heard anything good about these? I will most likely do the cutouts whenever I do the headers, since I am sure I will have to do a little moddifying to my current exhaust at the time.
And after that, its time for a cam to go in.

The bottom line is, if the inspection shop checks under the car and spots it, then you likely will not pass inspection. The trick is to find an inspection place that is too lazy to crawl under the car and look.
