I've never been any further south than San Antonio, so unsure of the climate further down from there. I've been everywhere else though. We don't have any good tracks on the western side of TX, and the elevation here is about 3500ft which makes for bad DA's. Normally if/when we race we'll go to Ennis, San Antonio, or HRP. Those are the only three 1/4 mile tracks in TX that matter.

There are allot of different climates/regions here too, in central TX there are allot of hills/trees/deer, in the Panhandle where I'm at its really flat so sometimes the wind/dust get annoying, but it rains/snows way more than far west TX (El Paso Area). I don't like the layout of the DFW area, but there's a good F-body scene there too. My father lives in Houston and there is a ton of stuff to do there, every time I'm there we have done something different than the last time.

Think Houston!!! You can be in the country just 25 miles from downtown. Very affordable homes. Acreage is available. Many places have lenient Deed Restrictions, so you can have a HUGE garage!!

We are in the NW Houston (249/beltway 8). Short drive to downtown, a little busy, but lots of amenities. Many good performance shops, several with dynos, only minutes away.

Oh, and the best thing.... NineBall is here, keeping LS1Tech.com up and running!!!

WHEN (not if) you make the trip to Houston, post up your itinerary, and I bet you'll get some tour guides. At least a hookup for some of the local GTGs.

Okay, been online it's decided that we are going to move to the area so we are close to HRP gotta have a nice hooking track. I've seen beautiful homes in the Houston, Tomball areas with detached garages, 23-2700 sq ft for around 150K which is fantastic but DAYUM the taxes are like 5K?! Why are your taxes on the real estate so high out there? My Friend's house here is worth around 450K and her taxes are like 6K........wow, but seriously, I get can have a fireplace, the guys can have the detached garage and run the air compressor all night long working on their cars.

Nineball, we will probably see ya when we get out that way to visit and check out the area. I will post back when the time comes closer so maybe some Fbody brothers can help us out to check out the area.

There is no state income tax here. Is there in Florida? That's why the property taxes are higher here.

No state income tax here either. Well, the thing is, what I get for my money in a home that I can't get here. Taxes here would be a good 2-2500K but it's relative, cost of living for what I get is more for less but higher taxes.

Aren't ya glad we are looking in your neck of the woods?

i am sure you will love it here.

my house is 2300 sq ft one story. garage built in but anyways... was 150k.

was only 8 minutes from Horsepower Engineering... where i worked for almost a year. i am 40 minutes from baytown... 15 from houston motorsports park and 20 minutes from the country (if i need to get away or what not)

definately look on the north side of town... and trust me you will see an f-body scene like you would not believe! also most of the members of Ls1tech are from here

I can't wait to get out of Houston and go to the right coast. I've thought about going to law school in New York, but I dunno. I might move to North Carolina. It all depends.

Hey Bronco, I want no people in my metro........I mean I don't want to work in Houston, I'd prefer the outskirts of it.

I've looked around online at homes in Tomball, and Houston but are there other little towns you can give me to check out? We'd prefer to live as close as we can to the track, lesser of a distance to get a broken Fbody home..........not mine the other two something always breaks, don't ask my Man breaks things that should never break like a 12 bolt 3 times already last time out it was an axle. LOL

Ok, HRP is in Baytown. Pretty industrial area, but there are nice parts. Anything at Beltway 8 on out would get you into the "Country" pretty quickly. Tomball, Magnolia, Spring, Conroe are all areas you might consider. For a great search tool for homes and pricing is HAR.com. It's the Houston Area Realtors MLS listings. Also, for reference on homes in Houston, HCAD.org is the Tax Assessor<sp?> website, you can look up properties, find out taxes, and a little history on the taxes.

There is the beginning of a revolt on the tax front. State bills introduced to limit tax increases, and several efforts to roll back rates. Gotta slap them politicians every once in a while.

Also, if you're going to be doing some travelling around Houston, buy a Key Map (www.keymap.com) at any houston Bookstore. Great for navigating!!

See ya'll soon.

02SOMZ28, thanks for the awesome info! I will be checking that stuff out for sure.

I would really like to see what some of those resale homes cost new on the tax appraisers site if that's listed like it is here.

Thanks again!

As for drag strips. We've seen there are 2 within 30 mins of each other. One of them I forgot the name is an IHRA track and looked like a hookin **** from the shine of the VHT. I am wondering how far the Houston drag strip is as well, don't mind traveling to tracks to race.

Anyone here from these surrounding areas? Looking for a good area that's pretty upscale with neighborhoods. I've been online looking at homes listed in Weslaco. I can't believe the prices for what you can get of new construction with acreage.

Reason for wanting to move. Lots of drag strips, lots of fellow Fbody people and reasonable living. You can't touch a resale home here in Palm Beach FL for under 300K whereas I can buy a brand new home there for 140K. Also, in the last 10 yrs that I have been in Palm Beach, the influx of obnoxious, old and annoying people are here now. It's overcrowded as can be, it takes me 30-40 mins to go 8 miles to work in the morning on side streets!!

Any info would be appreciated. Lastly, we are bringing some very fast fbodies from FL (not mine it's slow)
Hey chica how about a pic?

Dang, the valley could have used a few more f-bodies. All the towns you talked about are so close, not in a populated way, just as in city limtis way. So everyone just calls it the valley. The track is about 30-45 minutes from Weslaco. Lived here all my life, and couldnt see myself anywhere else.

Another area to look into is Humble (pronounced "uhmble"). It's on the NE side. Cypress is just south of Tomball (I'm right on the border of Tomball and Cypress). Cypress is nice and they have great schools.

I'll disagree with you there. Lived in Dallas for a few years before moving down to Houston, and lived in Austin before Dallas, and I'll take Austin over both in a heartbeat.

But Texas is definitely the place to be for car lovers. Lot's of open, long stretches of highway. Just bring your radar detector! And, remember, speeding is bad.
