If I were doing the home gym, I'd opt for the free weights. But, right now I have memberships with both 24-hour fitness AND Lifetime Fitness and haven't been using either of them as much as I should, so my thoughts, personally, on the Bowflex are that it would be a waste of money (for me at least 
).
