Default Legal Question inside

Is it legal for an employer to reduce your rate of pay without the employee's consent? Please tell me that it is illegal because I really want a piece of my boss's ***.

Also, does anybody know of any legal forums I might seek out?

Thanks

As far as I know your employer is only REQUIRED to pay you minimum wage.

However, some people sign "contracts" to work, (athletes, CEO's, etc.) which guarantee wages. If you are in a union, your wage is also set.

I'm sure there are a hundred different answers to your question, mostly depending on what your occupation is.

I don't think it's illegal, because I've seen it happen too many times. I would think they would have at least told you before cutting your pay. DON'T QUIT w/o getting another job lined up first. Don't give in to their game....

yahoo.com has some free legal advise. I've tried it and it's pretty good...

I am a GM at a fast food restaurant. I was late for a shift one day about a week and a half ago and was given a selection of options (one of them being a temperary decrease in pay) that would occur IF a repeat offence occured within the next 30 days. I have not been late since and also never had a written or verbal contract with my supervisor as to which of the options I would choose. I am paid salary and just had it decreased by 10% The thing that really pisses me off is that I didn't find out until I got my today when I got my bi-weekly paycheck. The sorry SOB never even told me.

Sorry for venting, but I don't think that he can legally do that. Thanks for the websites. I will check those out first thing in the morning. I'm a little drunk right now.

Not illegal. The employer has the power in Texas unless you are under contract. You're lucky you just got a cut in pay and not a pinkslip. Be happy you're still employed.

Have you asked? It could be a simple clerical error ...

If this is the case, approach it calmly and rationally to avoid another negative impression by your employer.

The sad thing is that two months ago I was nominated for Sales builder of the year and Manager of the year. I won the sales builder award and was runner up for the manager of the year out of 53 other GM's. I have always liked the freedom that my job gives me and have been willing to sacrafice a terrible pay rate for these freedoms, but not for less money. I would even be willing to accept the pay cut if I was tardy again. What really burns me is that he did it without me being late again and thathe didn't even have the nerve to tell me to my face. It's time for war! I like war.

In that case he may be afraid you want his job.

I'd go over his head, but be very very careful.......

Not 100% yet, but almost positive I'm getting a new supervisor in 2 weeks. They are rearranging the areas. The new sup I get I have worked with b4 and I like him. Thank God for the politics!

This is what the legal forum had to say about this.
