A word to the wise, anything that your insurance company doesn't cover becomes your personal liability. Say, for instance, you are only covered for $25,000 on your collision portion (which I believe is the state minimum, or is it $15K on the minimum?), and you total an $80,000 Mercedes, guess what? You, personally, are responsible for the difference. I carry 50/100/50 coverage, and this is actually lower than I would even recommend.

Sucks, man. Sorry you got stuck with that. Not much you can do except get an attorney and try to fight it. I got sued by an insurance company when I was 21 (15 years ago) for the same scenario, and I had to pay $12,000.00. I had to settle with the lawyers and set up a payment plan because I was found to be at fault (police report and everything) in the accident. Sad, but true, so I totally know where you are coming from here.

Edit: Coverage amounts were incorrect - just checked the policy.

Cy, how much does that coverage run you? I know it'd be way diff for me b/c of my record, but I run 50/100/50 right now and in six months I'll be changing companies and probably bumping my coverage. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Hopefull that is enough, so how much are you paying vince and what company. I have to renew mine this April 5th. But I just pay 351 twice for 6 months of coverage. I think it sucks that you cant get a year policy.

Jet

by the way good luck on the law suit

i feel your pain Gabe! 2 days after i lost my car. i had 3 people after me. #1 the uninsured unlicensed mexican who caused the collision and was found drunk. #2 the neon driver that was following too closely and rearended me flipping my car . and #3 a second neon tha crashed and flipped on his own 400 feet from the accident.. well after fighting the ins companies. all the claimants were denied due to it being the mexican guys fault. and he was uninsured so no one got anything..

How old were you at the time of the accident? Was the car registered in your name?

A timely question because I just got my renewal in the mail today.

This is through State Farm.

Bear in mind I get multi-line (renter's insurance) multi-car and loyalty discounts, so you may not be able to get these premiums.

And I misspoke earlier. Policy shows 50/100/50. I ALMOST got 250/500/250, but the premiums were a little high with having 3 cars on the policy now that I think about it. $500 deductible. Sorry.

2003 Z06 - $538.73
2002 Z71 Silverado - $515.73
2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder - $676.73

Funny that a 4 cylinder Eclipse would be more than a 405HP Vette, huh? It's a convertible with no roll over safety according to them, so it gets a higher premium. Wonder what a convertible Vette would cost. Vette is listed as a weekend pleasure vehicle and not a daily driver (less than 12K miles per year).

One of my daughters was rear-ended by an uninsured driver back in July. The impact forced her car under the Suburban in front of her...which forced the Suburban into the Jeep Grand Cherokee in front of it. It totalled my daughter's car, which she'd only had for 3-1/2 weeks. Since the driver who caused the accident wasn't insured, she had to use her insurance to cover the replacement cost. But, her insurance company (State Farm) went after the uninsured driver, and recovered her deductible. She received the check just last week...though it's been 8 months since the acident. They also recovered the deductible for the other 2 drivers involved. So yeah...they will come after you.

Sorry for your situation, dude...

Hmmmm. I thought the reason for getting uninsured/underinsured coverage was for this exact reason.

Meaning if you totaled my truck and it was your fault and you had no insurance you would get a ticket but that my insurance covered it.

Theres a thousand low-lifes around DFW running around with no insurance ive never heard of any of them paying up when it comes time because they dont have it, who knows maybe they let them pay $20.00 a week for the rest of their lives, i dunno. I guess my advice would be to make myself appear as poor as possible......catch my drift. That and get a freakin lawyer for damn sure.

Did you know that non-named non owner insurance is only $20.00 per month for me to drive anyones car anywhere so long as its not in my name and im not the primary driver. Now thats cool ****.
