Default *******!!!

So I got pulled over today for out of date registration on a car I just bought Friday. The car had been sitting and has not been inspected since 01/04. I was coming back from the courthouse getting the title transferred and the registration done on my way to get the inspection. This cop sitting on Spencer in Pasadena follows me down BW8 and pulls me over. I tell him that I just bought the car and right then I was going to get it inspected. I showed him the bill of sale saying that I just bought it Friday. I showed him the receipt from the registration that I got not 10 minutes earlier. He gives me the ticket anyway. I asked him what would have been the proper course of action and he tells me not to drive the car. I asked him how I was supposed to get it inspected without driving it and he tells me he understands the problem, but driving with expired inspection is illegal. I hate that there are people out there that just like to show off their authority.

If you're reading this, thanks a lot for your understanding *******. Cops like you are why I stay out of Pasadena.

So you admittingly break the law, but yet he is the ******* for enforcing it? Get a court date and fight it if you want. There IS a system for dealing with unjustly issued tickets you know. I understand it's a hassle to you, but technically he was just doing his job. Inspection stickers are fix-it tickets anyways. That means within 10 days you get it inspected, and bring proof to the court and they drop it for $10. So all you have to do is get it inspected and show it to the clerk. No big deal. He wrote you the ticket to ensure you would get it inspected, knowing full well that it would be dropped if you get it inspected within 10 days.

That cop was! There is a system for doing these things, but this cop apparently had a thing with showing off his authority. I've dealt with cops that are really cool, but when you have all the documentation in the car with you, it is quite rediculous for him to give you a ticket, a warning would have been more understandable.

And by the cops reasoning, the only way to legally get the car to the inspection station would be to trailer the car.

Then let me pose the same question to you.....what course of action should I have taken? And now I have to take a 2nd day off of work to go to court and show them the proof. There was a service station right down from where he pulled me over, he could have followed me there and watched me get it inspected, but he gave me the ticket. Argue and try to make me look like an *** if you want, but you know down inside he was just being a *****.

What are you, a cop?

Gimme a break! Jerk policemen like this guy are all too common. He should have used his better judgement and took into consideration that the guy had just bought the car and was in the situation he was. There was absolutely no need in him writing a ticket. Sure, he can go to court and get it dismissed, but its the inconvenience of it all. Total BS on the cop's part IMO!

Yeah I can't say I would have done the same thing if I were in his shoes, however I don't fault him for enforcing the law. Like I said in my earlier post he was probably just making sure you would get it inspected in a timely fashion and not just feeding him a line of BS. It's definitely a hassle, but I don't think he pulled you over to go "hey I wonder if I can ruin that guy's day."

If you're going to school to be a cop I would hope that you wouldn't have the typical "cop attitude" like this guy seems to have.

I 100% disagree with the cop writing him a ticket and your position on this. Mr. "I'll teach 'em a lesson/Mr. Authority Trip" cop should have given the guy a break considering the proof he showed him to go along with his explanation of the situation.

While the police officer was following the letter of the law, he was not following the spirit of the law. Otherwise police officers would spend all day writing traffic tickets to everyone. Just pay attention to how many people change lanes without signals, run red lights, run stop signs, fail to yield right of way. I could go on, but I think you get my drift.

The police officer also has the option to issue a warning, which is an indication to get the problem resolved and not let it happen again or else a violation will be issued. In my opinion this would have been the best thing to do.

But the police officer instead chose to issue a violation, which by the letter of the law he was 100% right. But given the fact the car was just bought it should have had a temporary dealer plate which would have excluded it from having the mandatory inspection. (See Texas Transportation code 548.052 section 2)

So now he has to pay the inspection, $10+ dollars in court fees and waste a day to go to court, so the police officer could write a non-issue ticket.

So in conclusion there is a place to argue the law, but a little common sense saves on both the court costs and citizens time.

Yea the cop was a total dick if the guy had all the paperwork to prove his story in the car with him. Now its gonna cost this guy a days pay to go to court and take care of this when this should have been just a warning ticket. All I can say is "every dog has his day" copper

you need to take it to court, where i hope the judge laughs in the cop's ******* face.

one of my buddies got a registration sticker ticket while he had the new one in the glovebox, his mom had put it in there a few days before and told him about it but he had just forgotten to put it on. he took it out and showed it to the cop, but he still wrote him a ticket! had to borrow the 10$ from me to get it dismissed

THIS is the reason why alot cops are held in such *high reguard*. everyone who has a bad experience like this, or hears about it is sickened that this kind of thing even happens.

was he supossed to trailer the ******* car for an inspection? some people just need a swift kick in the ***** :soap:

Trailering the car to the inspection place would not work because they would still have to drive it for the safety inspection, thus breaking the law.

Thats bullshit man.. If you just bought the car its not your fault. Go get the inspection. Take it to court they will throw it out with out any court cost, etc.. Atleast that is how it works in Friendswood and Pearland.

they never leave the parking lot when they inspect 'em around here

now if a cop gave an INSPECTOR a ticket while he was INSPECTING a car, THAT would be histerical!

No, I was laughing at first because of the irony, but he knew I was pissed after he gave me the ticket.

See you should have trailored the car to the inspection shop. That would have been the right thing to do.

I would have been upset too and with good reason. Take it to court, maybe they will dismiss it. I sure hope they do, I don't see why the cop couldn't let you off. If the car is inspected then they would let you off wouldn't they
