Is this engine good for Daily driving.

Default Is this engine good for Daily driving.

There is a guy selling me a 350 small block chevy bored 60 over. He says it didnt give him enough power. It is a complete engine that he is giving me for 75.00 bucks. What displacement would this give off?? Would it be good just to cruise??? Thanks.

its probably in the 360 range. and btw, with it being that cheap, and having already taken it out so much (.060 over) id stay away from it.

It would be bigger than a 360. A 383 is a .030 over bore. I think you need to stay away from a block that has been that over bored.

you sir are wrong... .030 over is a 355, a .060 bore gets you almost 360ish

a 383 has a 4.125 stroke and .030 bore if im not mistaken...that is why it is called a stroker motor

I had a +.060 350 in my 79Z. That motor was just wore the f*ck out when I took it apart. It was "supposedly" rebuilt a couple thousand miles before I got the car (and I only put a couple thousand miles on it), but it was obviously slapped together with no regards for clearances or balance. Had a nasty vibration at ~2200 rpm.

If someone's going to build a quality motor, they'll likely use a seasoned block and build a .030 over 350. If someone just wants something to run, for cheap, then they'd build a .060 over 350. Odds are good that this motor is in that category.

The extra cubes won't get you any "more power" (at least, none you'd really notice) over a 350. It'd probably be OK, but don't expect much from a $75 motor. Don't expect it to be balanced, have proper endplay, or perfect oil pressure. But it'll probably run.

FYI 383 has a 3.75 stroke

yeah, i wasnt sure, it was a guess.... i was in the middle of differential equation class... and i didnt read it fully... plus a 4.125 stroke and a .030 bore on a 302 is a 347... some reason i had that on the brain :o
