Emissions Testing Van
Couldn't really tell from the freeway what the sign said, but looked like the same emissions testing van at the freeway entrance on I-45 south heading into Houston at FM517. Its been sitting there the last 2 afternoons when I was headed home. Just thought I'd give you guys on the SouthSide a heads up.
They have those in DFW, there more of an annoyance than anything else. most people end up slowing to a crawl while going by them.
I've heard different things on what these vans do, but with previous cars i've owned (that i've known wouldn't pass the sniffer), i have not recieved anything in the mail from the state.

Well, I don't worry about them either, but I know that there are some on here that look out for them. Don't really know how much they can really do either or their effectiveness.

I drove by one a couple years ago. I got a notice in the mail to go to the nearest Harris County testing facility, and have my car tested or I could receive a fine. I put the stock catted h-pipe back on my mustang, drove to the testing facility, passed, drove back home, then immediately put my off-road h-pipe back on.
Ross is right, That is what happened to me. What I did from then on is when I saw the van on the on-ramp, I would shut my car off and coast by the van and then start my car back up and keep driving.
