How much is it to rent a pilot bearing removal tool and a slidding hammer from autozone? I am working on my clutch install and the pilot bearing is being a bitch!!

You have to get the pilot bearing removal tool and the slide hammer separate from vatozone and I think they were $20-$30, but you get all your money back when you return them = free.

You will have to grind the arms of the puller down a bit too, they don't fit too nicely...

To answer your question, its going to be around $40 from autozone. you rent the slide hammer and the attachment is a separate thing. but you get your money back when you return them. I just did this not to long ago.

If you have searched on the topic, I made a post about the slide hammer not working, the bearing was stuck in my case. So what ended up working was a bearing puller that pushes against the flywheel and pulls the bearing out. I think it was a snap on tool.
So try the hammer, it works for most, but it didnt work for me.

And BTW if you searched on methods of removal, from what Ive read, there is a freeze plug in the crankshaft behind the bearing that can pop out if you try to force it out using TP or something else packed in there. So that method is not 100% safe.

Just info Ive read

Id try the slide hammer set up first, hopefully it will work for you. I believe someone else stated above, you probably will have to grind down the arms so they will fit into the bearing. You should still be able to return it, just dont make it to hacked up.

Thanks guys for your responses. I was able to pull it out with the slide hammer and puller. Very easy to use and come out in three hits.

with mine, the bearing actually started ripping apart and the tool ripped 2 channels coming from the back of the bearing. it wasnt that I couldnt pull hard enough but the casing was getting destroyed. but that other tool worked really easy, I gues because it put a constant force instead of "whacks".

Luckily mine didnt rip apart but I did have to gut it a little to fit one of the teeth and used the other to pry against the motor and it came right out.
