I'm new to TX and have a nitrous system I don't really want (or have time) to take off. Can anyone point me (PM is fine) to a 'friendly' inspection location?
TIA

At least in CA, you can't pass a visual with nitrous, even if the bottle isn't hooked up (or even present).

Here it isn't an inspection item, the only way you can get in trouble is if they WITNESS you using it...and how are they gonna do that?

As for inspection...its a long standing tradition that if your car fails emissions you can roshambo the inspector for the sticker, but they get the first kick. So if you're tough enough its all yours

But really, so long as the light isn't on, all the systems are ready, your gas cap is good, and you pass all the safety items you haven't got anything to worry about.

the secret is to go someplace where they don't do visual checks of your car. I use to go from shop to shop asking if they do visuals. Some would tell me they do and other people would tell me that for some extra cash they wouldn't visually inspect my car but it had to pass the ODB1 or ODB2(what ever it's called) test. Luckily I have a hook up now so I don't have to wander around from "hole in the wall station" to "hole in the wall station".

Well, it turns out you guys were right. Each shop I asked said that the N2O wasn't an issue. My TINT, it turns out, is. So, now I'm looking for a shop to turn the other way on that one...

Pull in on a sunny Day with the T-tops off and the windows down. Sometimes they forget to roll them up and check

That's exactly what I did, and it worked. Sunny out, windows and the top down - they never checked. I got my registration and license this afternoon, so as of today, I'm officially a Texan.
