Not bad for little brother:

Gen3 went 12s showroom stock first
Gen3 went 11s with heads/cam first
Gen3 went 11s with stock internals first
Gen3 went 10s with heads/cam first
Gen3 went 10s with cam-only first
Gen3 went 9s all-motor first
Gen3 went 8s first
Gen3 went 7s first

....all compared to the 92-97 LT1/4....which had a 5 year head start...

Gen3 went 11s with heads/cam first - I doubt this, becaus people were doing h/c a long time back, like early 96 late 95, there were some big cams back then. CC306s were out some time around then also, and that cam was able to make 400rwhp in a six speed car. 12 Bolts, also started comming around some time in 95 or so. I'm sure some one broke in the 11s, but the internet boards wasnt around like it is now. There were a lot of fast LT1s in general, that never got posted on the boards. MTI had a car with a 306 and heads pulling 415rwhp down back in the day. Some one had to have broken 11s, maybe some old timer will chime in.

Gen3 went 10s with heads/cam first - Steve Quinn ran in the 10s a long time ago, not sure on date though, but given it was such a long time back, there had to ahve been 11 sec h/c LT1 cars way back.

Gen3 went 8s first - I blame Rick

Gen3 went 7s first - Once again, blame falls on Rick

Yup, there were many h/c lt1 cars in the 11's before the ls1 was ever even debuted. In fact off the top of my head I want to say BigRic was one of them. I recall a couple of bolt on lt1's running bottom 12's before ls1's ever came out as well.

All I have to say to all this is "ther is nothing better than the look on a LS1 drivers face when they get walked by a LT1." and yes stock to stock LS1 wins.

First to 11's with H/C? I believe Mike Graham(founder of houston-f-body) ran an 11.7 CAM ONLY in 98/99ish, back when stroker LS1's were running low 12's. So I dont believe that record. As far as H/C in the 10's, not sure who got there first, but I do remember Steve Quinns LT1 ran a 10.5 at 130 prior to Campbells MTI car running a 10.6(the record at the time I believe). N/A is sketchy...Sammy Vedros LT1(w/ LT1 heads) was running 9's N/A in 2002 I believe, granted his car is a first gen so it didnt count....Vince McCauley claimed to be the first LT1 4th gen(but never proved it) with his 9.93 at 135. That was prior to Joe Overton or Stephen Sanders LS1 breaking out the 10's. Not sure who was the first LS1(I thought it was Stephen Sanders??). I do know "Mindgame" off of camaroz28.com still holds the 6-speed N/A record at 9.82 @ 138, he ran that in early 2003.

Funny I remember as late as 2001-2002 most people still considered the LT1 to be superior. Back then the fastest LS1 was the S.A.M car at a 9.99, at the same time there were several LT1's that had been running low 9's for a while(George Baxter, Dave Ducote/Madman, Dave Diluca, Jay Billingsley, etc.). The only reason they never made it into the 8's or faster was a lack of 4th gen suspension development. Several of those cars had the power to run low 8's or better, but gave up running low 9's. Most of the suspension components/techniques used on LS1 cars now(and LT1 cars as well) were pioneered by Madman, Jay Billingsley and others on their LT1 cars.

If you want a nice car buy an LS1. If you like making no power, buying opti sparks every time you get the oil changed buy an LT1. I know I have owned two LT1s and one LS1.

LS1 all the way. If you ever work on it, you will love the way the gaskets are. I think they are a little different on the 98's than the 99+....I never tore into my 98, just the 02.
