Question for HBU and UH students
I'm thinknig seriously about finally going back to college and getting a degree. I'm probably about 2-3 years away from a degree in Music Education (which is what I actually want to do), but I'm looking at the finances, to see how far off I am. How much does each semester cost? Not looking for room and board numbers (unless my wife boots my *** out), just tuition, fees, and books.
Thanks,
-Mike

My bill from UH is $3,000 for this semester, living at home.
Books can be anywhere from $200-$600 extra, but I didn't even buy any last semester and got by ok.

Hbu
When I was there back in the late 90's.
Undergrad: $275/hr
Grad: $350/hr
HBU is on the quarter system, so fewer hours per quarter, but it all averages out.
I had a total of 132 hours for the undergrad. Grad was in the 45 - 50 hour range. It is not cheap, but it is a great school! I've been away for too long to know how the music department is now. Several friends were music ed majors and were very happy with the program.

You cannot even compare UH and HBU as far as price is concerned. HBU is one of the most expensive schools in Texas. That is right it's more expensive than RICE. And they do not go by semesters, so don't compare UH to them just off of numbers because you end up paying a ton more.

Well, there is an alterior motive for me looking at HBU. Dr. Dan Shipman is one of the brass faculty at HBU and he is a really cool guy. Tremendous player, great motivator, and an all-around nice guy. Oh, and he was my private instructor in high school. Robert McElroy is the head of Instrumental Enesembles, and he's something of a legend in these parts as well.
My first step will be to re-live some bad memories and get my transcripts from HCC (good grades), UH (mostly good grades, except one class I got an incomplete in and never finished because I was working, so I got an F) and UT (very bad grades). Then I'll talk to a counselor at both schools and see where I stand. I'm hoping to take some classes at night for the first year or two and continue working.
Thanks for the input!
