I think it was a Category 3. I sat through that one. Slept through 1/2 of it (I was 6), then my parents woke me up because they were nervous for me...wtf?...I was asleep. Now I get to watch the walls shake in the candlelight. THOINX!!!

thanks ya'll. I was mispelling it.

Hurricane Alicia 1983 formed over the north central Gulf of Mexico on August 15. It drifted slowly westward and northwestward while steadily strengthening on the 16th and 17th. This motion brought Alicia over the western end of Galveston Island, Texas as a Category 3 hurricane on August 18. Alicia moved northwestward into Oklahoma as a tropical depression on August 19, then turned northward before dissipating over Nebraska on the 21st.

The Coast Guard cutter Buttonwood moored at Galveston reported sustained winds of 96 mph with gusts to 125 mph. Hobby Airport at Houston, Texas reported 94 mph sustained winds with gusts to 107 mph. Wind gusts of hurricane force in downtown Houston littered the streets with broken glass as windows broke in the high-rise buildings. Additionally, twenty-three tornadoes were reported from Alicia.

Alicia was responsible for 21 deaths and $2 billion in damage in the United States.

I lived in Friendswood since 1975 until a few years ago. We stayed for every hurricane or major storm. It was fun riding our bikes in the flooded streets when the thing blew over

Yeah, we will all survive. The media makes mountains out of molehills. However I do work in Galveston and things are absolutely crazy here. We are bunkering down the shop right now as I write this. It is possible that Galveston County could be forced into mandatory evacuations as soon as tonight, but last bulletin I read stated that it would be put into effect Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Once that happens, it is said that traffic will be directed, based on location of course, northward toward Huntsville, Brenham, or Bryan-College Station. Just be warned, the roads will get crazy as hell. I plan on, if possible to come into work tomorrow morning, provided that the evacuation call has not been mandated.

I will however be leaving tomorrow. Not that I'm worried about much all the way in alvin, but the apartment I stay at, well it floods like hell, even in a regular rain storm. I have 2 dogs that have been with me thru the years and well, just don't want to put them in harms way, plus my truck has too much invested in it, to sit out and get flooded. Although, might be a good way to get another one. lol.

But yeah, things are way out of control, especially here in G-Town. IMO, its just to early to tell.

Just a little update:

Projected to be a Cat 4 by tomorrow and make landfall as a cat 4, it is forcasted to make landfall between matagorda and port o'conner, the galveston se area will get the dirty side of the storm. I think some of you guys shouldn't take this so lightly.

My house is right on Clear Lake, so we're going to spend the rest of the week getting everything ready for the worst.
