Default who for insurance?

just moved here, so i gotta pick an insurance company soon for the cars. I have an 01 Firehawk, and an 88 GTA. I plan on buying a new beater soon as well.

i called Allstate and they told me to insure the 01 and the 88 would be 2800 (combined) for 6 months he said something about my cars being 'high risk'.

that sounds absurd to me since i came from The People's Republic of MA, which is notorious for having the 3rd highest insurance in the counry (behind CA and NJ), and i was paying 1100/yr for the firehawk (full coverage), and $600/yr for the 88 (no collision).

i cannot believe that my insurance would be over 3x higher in TX... does anyone have any recommendations as to a company i should call to get a quote?

Try Geico, I switched from Farmers to Geico 6 months ago and saved about $1200 in that 6 month period. Just renewed at a lower rate.

I had Safe co, 100/300/100 everything except towing and rental, on a 04 CTS-V and 93 merc Topaz LOL, and just switched to Progressive, for both vehicles it is 855 every 6 months. I am 32 also, so that makes a difference.

The company that I use is Bryan Calvin Smith, there a insurance broker in texas there number is 713 723 9353, ask for hilda, they can compair many different rates with multiple carriers.

I'm not sure if your mil. or not but I've got USAA, better than GEICO on rates AND customer service before and espicially after an accident (ever tried to get blood from a turnip ) I left state farm after a custody battle (they gave my ex MY 10 year+ policy going against their own policies) and USAA was lower on 2 of my vehicles and a little higher on 1. A lot of folks call progressive just for the compairisons they do you get a decent picture of what you can expect to pay from a average ins. company.
I've never had GEICO but have had to deal with them as one of thier insuree's hit my wife and their customer service was ... less than adequate (huge understatement).

I have USAA also but I dont think he's military, in any case go with progressive, put the Hawk on a "non daily driver" status and tell them you'll drive the old one, it's less of a risk and it'll bring down the insurance while still allowing you full coverage. my TA is non daily driver and it saves me like 250 a month

nope, not in military. does TX check on your mileage? in MA, the insurance company got a report of your current mileage when you got your inspection sticker every year... they switched to that system because too many people were lying about their mileage to get low mileage discounts.

I'm with Progressive; when I was calling for quotes (I called at least 10 places) they were the cheapest...currently right now being married, under 24, insurance for:
Full coverage:
2000 camaro z28
1998 Nissan Frontier
Liability
1990 Mazda RX7
1987 Isuzu Trooper
$220/month......we have the multi-car discount and the old married people's discount too...I can give you the name of the agent, she has hookups if you need SR22 insurance as well.

i finally started getting some more quotes (just online quotes, not full blown ones where they actually verify all your driving records and stuff).

i'm getting some decent numbers... but my question is what would be the reason for going to one company vs. another? besides the price, how different can an insuranace company be? coverage is coverage, right?
