Default S.A.M. graduates?

I've been looking at UTI for awhile, but today someone told me about SAM(school of automotive mechanics). I had heard about them earlier today while on HPE's website (all of their employees have graduated from there) and was wondering if anyone on these boards was an alumni and could give me their opinion on the school?

I'm pretty curious about the school too. If anybody knows what kindof salary you make doing this kind of thing, i'm fairly curious about that too.

It depends on how good you are ? FYI it is School of Automotive Machinists ! Also not everyone that works at HPE went to S.A.M. But if you choose to go to S.A.M. you will have a good time and learn alot!

Depends on you. You just wanna build hot rods, you'll probably end up at a local shop porting heads or building motors. If you really wanna make some money, learn your **** so you can work for the NASCAR teams. SAM has a good reputaion with many competitive teams in NHRA, NASCAR, and many hot rod shops throughout Houston.

and sam ONLY teaches engines right? thats the only downside i see. its either: learn alot of everything with a little performance at UTI, or learn all performance and nothing else at S.A.M. that being said, i really like the sound of sam. I'd like to work at a place like HPE.

Gray or (BigBronco) is a student there and He works at S.A.M. He is one of the two educational reps and admissions people there. I am sure he will post in here later!
S.A.M. is a bad *** place for sure.

I'm thinking about post graduation plans (studying to be a Mechanical Engineer right now) What kind of opportunities would be available to me coming out of SAM recruitment wise? You mention big name teams, can I get some examples?

I went to S.A.M. and must say it was well worth the payoff. I am not one to discuss my salary but I can tell you that with my daytime Job (I work for a local Viper Performance Shop) I make a hell of a salary and I also own T56Rebuilds.com. Rebuilding transmissions was just a side job I had until this time last year and it is pretty much full time now. I am a full time tuner of AEM, Ls1edit, HP tuners, Motec, Split Second and so on but I did not learn that at SAM. I say it is well worth the money and yes you will learn alot. I also agree that it depends on where you are looking to work. Building engines for a winston cup team is great but can be hard to get in depending on the time of year. Feel free to PM me if you would like to know my salary for decision purposes but I just do not see me posting it for everyone to see.

I'm a current student at S.A.M.

If you have some specific questions, please send me a private message.

I will say.....the experiences I've had there have been extremely positive.

Great choice! I would choose SAM over UTI any day. The guys building the engines that win races are making the good paychecks

I received this packet a while back and i gotta say i was impressed by it, the only thing that is stopping me from going is how far along I am in biology/ kinesiology degree, yeah i know, it's at the other end of the spectrum, but maybe if physical therapy school doesn't work out who knows,

Once you compare S.A.M. to UTI you will see there is NO question on what choice you should make. Bust your *** and ask educated questions and you should be just fine. Scooter and Chupacabra in the 9's and that car is still in need of a diet not to bad for a stock bottom end daily driver, if you drive the car up for Thankgsgiving you need to roll out and see what Funkytown can do ?

It's kind of funny, but I didn't realise how many of the racing buddies I had that were previous S.A.M. students.

I will say that these same people helped get me and my wife's car where it is today.

S.A.M.= Good people!
