Default Ticket for no cats today

As the title says, got a ticket for no cats on my car today. I was comin back on campus at TTU after running errands and he just pulled me over, I wasnt even speeding or anything. First thing he says when he gets up to the window is that he has already pulled me over once and warned me about it, which definitely didnt happen. So he goes about his business and checks underneath, determines that i dont have a muffler either (i have a loudmouth resonator), and cites me for no cats and no muffler. I get out and show him the muffler, and he scratches it off the ticket. Now i have a ticket for no cats, and i was j/w if anyone knows if Lubbock County is an emissions county, or at least where i could find out? I have until 12-5-05 to appear in court, but id like to go asap to get it taken care of. And my inspection expires next month, so he said that he will keep an eye out for me, and if i have a new sticker and no cats then i will get another ticket. Any suggestions guys?

GO to an old muffler shop and get some cats. then punch a hole in them clear all that crap out in there. Or just buy some hi flow cats.

i dont know how much it was, they didnt give me a sheet of the prices or anything. I have heard they are a couple hundred, about $500. That is in houston though. I do like the sound of inspector12's idea tho. Is there no one in Lubbock county who knows anything about this?

I dont know much about the Lubbock area Emissions deal, since like you I am from the Houston area. But I would definitely get the badge number of the cop that ticketed you. Get yourself some gutted cats welded up, a new emissions sticker. Then I would go and complain about being harassed. I dont know what it is about Lubbock but I have been harassed while running. Running on my feet. I am a white college student in running shoes and shorts, running through town at night because it is the only time I have to run. The cops here seem to like to harass the college kids for no particular reason. Just my $.02

I think i will go with inspector12's idea, and then just get them on as early as possible, take pics, and take that to court w/ me. I just wonder if simply hearing my car was probable cause to pull me over? I know i wasnt speeding or anything, nor did i run any lights. any other comments?

That cop must have been having a bad day, because they usually let a lot slide. I've been speeding down 4th and stuff like that, I also know a lor of guys without cats and LT's and they never get pulled over. First I've heard of it here in Lubbock, but yeah I'd say get some hollowed out cats and weld them onto the y-pipe. It's also likely that the cop pulled over another car like yours at one point and time. Happened to me before.

I'm not sure what the lubbock emissions requirements are. But as I understand it to be ... its illegal to run a car w/o cats no matter what county its from, whether that county does sniffer tests or emissions tests and what not, or not. I'd just go w/ the gutted cats, and talk to a judge about the cop sayin he's pulled you over before

yea i asked him what he did for the other guy he pulled over, and he said he gave him a warning. I asked why i wasnt getting a warning, and he said it was b/c i admitted to knowingly running my car w/o cats...so yea i kinda effed myself there. he said the other kid said he wasnt aware of it, and thats why he only got a warning.

Yea ... i've been running my duals w/o cats for a year and a half and have been pulled over 2 times ... luckily neither of the cops nailed me for exhaust. But ragged the hell out of tint and no front plate.

I'd go talk to the judge, tell him that you are in the process of having cats put into the exhaust and see if he'll dismiss the ticket if you can show proof you've had cats installed. If he says yes - take your car in and put some hi flows or gutted cats in, and then take pictures, have the shop print up a reciept or whatever.

This guy is correct. Gutted (hollow) cats hurt performance and become an obstruction in the pipe. They actually can flow worse than non-gutted cats sometimes, due to turbulence. If you gut them, make sure you put a pipe thru the middle.

Its easier to find some and cut them open and weld the casings to your Y-pipe.
