Default DFW Shooters???

Any shooters in DFW? (preferebly the FW part) i haven't gone to the range once since i've moved down here in sept. and i'm getting an itchy trigger finger. i dunno where the 'good' ranges are, so i gotta find some shooting buddys. i really want to find a good membership range that has an outdoor range of at least 100 yds that allows FMJ and ideally also has trap/skeet ranges and an indoor pistol range too. i started looking into them, and haltom city club might be the only decent one near me.

i'm mostly into military rifles, esp WWII, but i also have some modern stuff and some pistols too.

I don't thnk you will find many ranges in this area that allow FMJ, sux cause I have alot of military surplus ammo in all kinds of calibers and of course it's all FMJ. There used to be a range over by Haltom city that had a 200 meter range but I think they closed that years ago. I have 1ea of every long rifled firearm the U.S. Army has issued since 1900 and I have various other foreign rifles also. Firearms aren't PC.

I'm up for some shooting. I haven't been since I moved to the area almost 2 years ago either. Except when I went hunting. I've been contemplating putting a scope on my STG-58. It would be nice to at least get it in the ball park of the bulls eye with inexpensive FMJ loads. I'm in Burleson BTW.

Quail Creek is at the end of FM1171 on the west side of 35W. Last time I was there they did not allow the use of FMJ ammo.

ya. well this is TX!!! i'm from MA, which has amongst the harshest anti-gun laws in the country. there are some really great ranges there, so i would think that TX would trump them by a sizable margin. seems like most of the ranges down here are public pay-to-play ranges. i'm only interested in membership ranges. membership ranges tend to have a bit more of a family-feeling atmosphere, where you see the same people every time you go.

looks like there was a really great one with a 1000yd range out in poolville or somewhere in bumblefuck about 30 miles north of weatherford... but no way am i going an hour out every weekend to go shooting.

why dont they allow FMJ? improper backstops? all my stuff is FMJ. i love military stuff and i love stuff that i can get cheap ammo for.

i have a WWII Garand, WWII Enfield No.4 Mk I, WWII K98, WWII Mosin Nagant 91/30, Yugo SKS 59/66, Romanian AK-47, Romanian AK-74, Romanian 'Dragunov', and an AR-15 M4.

i wicked wanna get a 03-A3 from the CMP before they are all gobbled up. they also actually just started selling wood pens made out of broken Garand stocks!!! i wicked wanna get one of those too, but they are like $45, which is a bit of money for a pen that i'd mostly just have for the novelty of it.

Supposedly some guy that owns the property behind the range had a bull that got hit by a stray round and they quite allowing FMJ after that.

I generally go to Alpine over off 820 & 20 - its a little drive for me but it has a decent range - nothing over 100yds for centerfire tho unfortunately. it has trap and skeet tho, as well as pistol/rimfire ranges.

but, its a public place. fine for what i do.

Alpine is the range that used to have a 200 yard lanes but I've never been there. There used to be the Dallas Pistol Club which was a private club but the government took the property for what is now the 190 GB freeway.

That is where I go. It is quiet in the mornings on weekdays. Pretty much have to share with like 2 or 3 people for the entire place.

ok, so i'm getting an itchy trigger finger... lets pick a place and do a GTG. As long as they have at least a 100yd outdoor range that allows FMJ, i'm game.since i've never been anywhere, i'll let you guys pick the place. hows a saturday or sunday afternoon sound? nothing too early, cuz i need my beauty sleep on weekends.

damn, i wonder if my double rifle case will even fit in my T/A (i had a jeep back home)

I think you might be talking about Stephenville. There's supposed to be a 1000 YD long range military style shooting range out there somewhere.
