Talking Quest For 13's

So, in case you did not know, my car has run really slow everytime I have driven down the 1320. I thought that the problem would be in the drivers ability, but after watching a Mustang GT pull on me down the 2nd half of the 1/4 mile I began to think that my car may have something wrong with it (best time so far 14.4 at 98). Over Christmas break I did the the "free mods" for the LS1, which consisted of free ram air, ported throttle body, chopped off EGR tube, and I got an SLP intake lid for x-mas. While I was at it many people suggested changing the fuel filter, I did. After changing the filter I noticed a drastic improvement in performance, especially on the top end.

Tonight, I get to the track and see some semi long lines in the staging lanes, boooo. But the quest for 13's cannot be abandoned.
1st run: bad burnout, and spun bad in 2nd. 15.0 @ 94, pissed off at that run I get back in the staging lanes.
2nd run: Good burnout, bogged really bad off the line, but hit every gear, and had good traction. 14.1 @102 Good news MPH is where it should be, and my 60' was a 2.44 I have done better (2.1-2.3)so I think 13's are within reach. Back to the lanes.
3rd run: this is gonna be the last chance I get cause they just closed the lanes. I get a good burnout, launch pretty good, don't bog and hit all my shifts. I left it 3rd and hit the limiter at the last 50 or so feet, I thought that probably cost me a good bit of time, so I don't get my hopes up. I drive up to the time slip booth, and the lady hands me my time slip with a "have a nice night", nothing about needing a helmet or anything. Dejected I start to roll away, slowly, Like the beaten dog I was. Then the lady shouts "bring a Helmet next time!" ERRRRRRRRRT, hard on the brakes, and turn on my cabin lights I look at the time slip 13 OMG a 13!!!! a 13 .... is that a 6 or 8? I can't tell. Looking closer.....its a 6!!!! 13.6 @102 OMG!!!! wait, maybe they gave me the wrong slip, check the number 155 on the slip and 155 on the window, ok, Left lane, I just raced in the left lane......OMFG I just ran a 13.6 @102.

Will try to post the timeslip tomorrow. I mean today.

New and Improved mid 13's,
Josh

cool congrats! It sounds like the car should have a little more in it. You are just going to have to keep getting use to the car and work on your launches...

Damn, you should be able to run some low 13's. Work on your suspension and you will run faster, mabye you should get some nittos, or ET srteets. Congrats on the improvement though.

At the line my traction is extremely limited and i have to slip the clutch alot in order to keep from bogging off the line. 2.1 is a decent 60' for me on these crappy 245 Fuzions, I think Nittos or BFG's are in my future. and the whole rear suspension, I mean it has some squeaks and i can't think of a better way to get rid of them than replacing it.

If the filter was THAT dirty, you may want to do a complete tune up and fluid change. Maybe a good injection system and top end cleaning too.

Awesome new josh, happy you found your lost power, and with a little more practice you should be running bottom 13's in no time.

Greed you are right, I bought the car with a 103k miles on it, the fuel filter was one of the last things I had to change. The only fluids I havent changed are the brakes and clutch.

By far the fuel filter mod is the best bang for buck to date.
