Can a gun be powder coated or polished to a shiny metal?

I don't know about powder coating, most non glare finishes on guns are called Parkerizing, they are a dull dark green or a black finish which is what you see on most military weapons, no reflection. Polished, it's called "in the white" or "white" no finish at all, highly polished steel and usually coated with lacquer or highly waxed. You could also have it reblued or blacked which is what you see on most commercial grade rifles and pistols. On antique guns you will see a technique called "bone charcoal" blueing which is really pretty when done correctly but it's expensive and hard to do correctly. You have alot of options for finishes. I'd probably have that AK parkerized.

Both of them need a good maintenance. The wood needs a better finish and I wanted to get the metal polished up. The 12ga is the one that needs to be "parkerized" then.

Just a suggestion, If you decide to take the AK to a gun shop or to a gunsmith to have it refinished it would be a good idea to put the butt stock back on the gun. That pistol grip rear stock is illegal in the U.S.A and a reputable shop won't touch it, infact they might turn you in. If it were me I'd take that picture down also but that's just me.
