Default Does anyone know if this is "RUMOR" or "TRUE"

but....... someone emailed this to me today

Subject: Job Fair For Katrina Evacuees

This past weekend FEMA and the City of Austin , along with the Texas
Workforce Commission setup a job training/hiring/interview/job fair for
all the Katrina FEMA evacuees in the Austin area to be held at the ACC
campus on Webberville Road in East Austin . Several of the evacuees
said they had no transportation to get from the apartment complexes.

So the city of Austin/FEMA/TWC set up transportation for each of them
to ensure they would be able to partake of the benefit of job searching.
The transportation consisted of nine buses and vans, to run from four
locations in Round Rock, and five locations in Austin, in continuing
shuttles back and forth to the campus to ensure that the hundreds of
people looking for jobs would be transported in comfort. The vehicles
were brought to their residences; drivers knocked on the doors; and every
effort was made.

At the end of the day, the nine vans and buses transported a
total of one person.

Not one person per bus - one person total.

At the end of the day, none of the Katrina Evacuees applied for
any of the jobs.

Not one person took employment - NONE total.

The bill to FEMA was $7800.

And yet they still get on TV claiming that the United States
Government "OWES THEM", I say we don't owe them anything and if
anything, they OWE us - the Tax Payers that are "WORKING
PEOPLE", they owe what they have been mooching off of the Tax Payers for
almost a year now. It is obvious that they don't intend to work
as long as they can sponge off of the system. It is time to cut them loose and tell them the free ride is over !

I'd hate for it to be true, but my gut instinct tells me that is is indeed true.

those people bring it on themselfs to make people NOT wanna help them...

why is it that houstons crime rate went up over 30% after katrina?

why are houstons schools having riots with the kids from katrina fighting everyone and threating teachers (my mom)

why do the people that still live in new orleans NOT want the people that left to come back?

Why were soo many people using their fema money to buy **** they didnt need and yet were tryin to rip the government and get one or two extra checks?

Why are a number of apts between houston and lousiana shut down due to the fact they were trashed by people after the storm?

That is a fairly racists remark. You assume it is racists that are starting these rumors? It could be a number of any people (Color or race) that is just tired of having the people on welfare abuse the system etc... Just because the majority of those are minorities doesn't make them a racist! Oh and if I missunderstood you forgive me for calling you on it.

The spin on the story is that Katrina evacuees don't want to work, even when the city offers them free transportation to job fairs. In reality over 200 people showed up for the job fair despite poor weather. It was poor planning and lack of publicity that is to blame for the dismal usage of the vans, not that people are refusing to even look for work. I wonder how many of those 200 people that showed up had to borrow a car, rode a bike or walked? Surely if they knew there was going to be free transportation they'd have taken advantage of it.

There are pieces of crap in every race, color and gender you can imagine. The people buying Louis Vitton purses with FEMA debit cards should have been jailed, just like the person that accepted them. Then again whoever decided to just give out free money like that needs their *** kicked, what did they expect to happen?

rumor, but not out of the question at being true...those folks really ticked me off with how they have cheated the system...a lot deserved what they got but so many didn't. Look at how they treated the 8th wonder of the world (astrodome) and what they did with their checks and to the cities where mass amounts of people flocked...

yeah, I knew this was going to get some sh*t started....

but seriously, I'm really getting tired of just the word "Katrina" now.... I mean when is it going to end.......... when they finally completely rebuild New Orleans, build the neighborhoods, their houses, and they'll probably even furnish them too.

just last week I was in line at a fast food drive-thru and two people was walking up to our cars asking for money because fema was kicking them out next door at the motel.
I said, "damn lady, wasn't that almost like a year ago and you are still looking for handouts, I mean come-on now, you've had plenty of time to pick yourself up, dust yourself off , and get a job and do something for yourself now."
then she brings her kid in it, said she can't work, etc., b.s., more b.s - I should have just said I don't have any money but it really pissed me off for some reason when she approached me like that.
