Advice please (cops)
First off let me give you some backround info..
I work for the YMCA at a local elementary school in friendswood, however; this particualar day I had to fill in at another school in pearland. I work directly with kids as a couselor and mentor.
Knowing that important bit of information. I'm on my way to the elementary school with the top down on the Cobra just enjoying life. I stop at a red light in a school zone and see a police officer facing me from the other direction in the turning lane. I can litterally feel the mans eyes burning my face up. So the light goes green and it's not but 5 seconds down the road that same cop is doing like 40 in a 20 school zone chasing me down to pull me over.
(Still time to make it to work)~
He comes up to my window and asks how I'm doing I say "A whole lot better 2 seconds ago". He wants the normal crap (DL, and insurance) and he tells I was pulled over for not having my front plate on.. Ok no big deal I tell him my EX ripped it off, but then he throws me a curve ball asking me "do you have any unpaid tickets I'm going to have to deal with today".. I'm like "no sir" (In my head it's like WTF!) He runs me in his screen and comes back not finding **** on me he handing me my insurance card. Here comes the fun stuff... ************ is like "I'll have you out of here in just a few mins sir, but first is there any guns, knives, alcohal or drugs in the vehicle I need to know about?" I'm like "no sir I don't even drink"... Cop -"Do you care if I search the vehicle" (???????????) "Sure knock yourself out, there is nothing in there but YMCA shirts and school books"
(Ten minutes late to work)
He gets me out of the car and frisks me in front of half of pearland in my YMCA shirt. (GRRRREEEEAATTT) Then ask's me to stand way back by his car while he does his search. "No problem" I say. Just then I turn around and notice the guy riding with him as the "ride along" was someone I've known for over 5 years. I turn to the cop and say "so you have Josh with you today?" He is confused at first then was like "you know Josh?" I tell him "yeah I've known him for years, he even has the same car as me down to the color".
(20 mins late to work.. Still searching my car, now with his flashlight out in broad daylight..)
Just as his partner shows up I ask him "Is there something I should know about? cause this isn't normal for me" he goes "no this is just part of our new program to show people we are out doing something".. (Shocking) His partner walks over and I say "hey how you doing?" he's like "Good, good... What year is that?" I reply " '03". He's like "cool my buddy at the station has one just like it".. I go "yeah so does the guy in the car right there Josh" He continues "yeah my buddys is red and he went to the track last night". "You mean robert?" Cop- " Yeah how did you know?" "Cause I talked to him for about an hour just yesterday".
(over 30 minutes late for work now)
He finishes the search up and tells me thank you and that I can go. I missed 3 phone calls from my superiors at work while out of the car alone. What can I do about this? Seriously I got frisked and my car searched for not having a front plate on my car...

What do you mean, 'What can I do about this?'
1) You had no front plate = Probable cause....period.
2) You consented to the search.
3) You got a warning.
4) You got patted down ...for officer safety.
It's called a Terry frisk...look it up, it's case law.
5) You let him continue the search.
6) Sounds like he was polite.
Now, I know there are gonna be some of you that jump on the 'I hate cops wagon'...I've gotten used to it but, what I don't understand is... Ya'll have no idea of what is legal and what is illegal in a search, consent, probable cause, etc, etc.
Perfect example:
Some jackass over in the appearance section posted up about him pullin a fast one over on me one night back when I was in patrol. He didn't know what the frick he was talkin about, made himself out to be a real player or bad-***...when really...he was pissin in his pants and Yes sir, No siring me when it actually happened. PUNK !
I have given advice NUMEROUS times when I hear a story on here when an officer has been a dick to someone. Cops like that disgrace the 'Officers' that are decent and good. How many stories has anyone on here read that go like this .....
" I was pulled over yesterday while I was driving like a jerk-off. The officer was understanding and very nice, he ended up giving me a warning...nice to know there's some reasonable officers around and boy, what a shitty job they have."
NOPE...instead we get this crap from some of you. Do yourselves a favor, get the hell over yourself, know what your talking about, and don't cry when you get pulled over for something that you already know is illegal. Be sure you know what you are talkin about before you get on here and try and start ****.
P.S. I personally hate the front LP law. I don't have one on my car and...if I get a ticket over it I will just pay the damn thing...you know why....YUP...because I know it was my decision to leave it off. I'm responsible for my own actions.
My .02....and I'm jumping off the box.

Pretty good advice Kev. I too have had the BS run around pull overs, but over all I think I have had good luck. I did have a bad run in with some Friendswood cops a couple of months ago, but a little legal help and it was done with. Any time I get pulled over and let go with out a ticket of some sort I feel good about IMO. Cause I maynot have been doing anything right then, but I know I have before LOL! I know it sucks that they made you late, but it is the one time you have a real excuse for being so.
i'd have told him "look, i respect the reason you pulled me over, but i've done nothing else wrong....this is making me late for work, so could we maybe finish up here and be on our way?"
K9 is right. There are alot of good cops out there. Couple of weeks ago, I went and picked my brother up after dinner with my wife. I just got my car back from the new 408 build. I had to take him for a spin. I opened the cut-out and off we went. I pulled out on the main road and laid in it. No one was around me at all. Way back was a cop. He pulled me over and told me to shut the car down. He ask what I was doing. Told him the truth about the ride. He ask for my DL and Insc card. Guess what! My wife had it in her purse back at my brothers house. I told the officer this!!He was cool about it. Ran a check on me. told me to slow it down and have a nice night.
No DL and NO ins card and getting on it!! All I can say is thanks! The officer was really cool about it. Guy`s it part of our life with sportscars. We know they are going to watch us no matter what. Thats llife! By the way, I don`t have a plate up front, it`s on the dash!
One day when someone puts there hands on your girl or kid your going to love that officer when he bust there ***!
Peace!

I seriously doubt there is anything you can do. By not having your front plate, they pretty much, by law, have the right to search you. The only thing I can recommend is that if you are in some type of trouble with your employer, try and get a note from the Pearland police explaining the situation and their "new" policy.
Also, start drinking.

Exactly ! A fuzzy stuffed animal for the man as a prize.

K9Kev, I know what you mean when you say that the good things go unnoticed and without mention. In any type of job where you are dealing with many, various people from day to day, no one remembers all of the times where you go out of your way for them. If, however, you should be interpreted as rude or inappropriate somehow, the phone calls and letters start immediately. It sucks, but that's how it is for almost everyone.
That being said, I have had experiences both good and bad when being pulled over, and there a lot of good officers out there. And it is true what you say, BeardWS6, when something goes down, there are few other people you would rather have to back you up.
