Default Moving back to Houston!!

I need to know where is a good suburb to live in. I grew up in Greenspoint and I will be damned if I go back to that there with my Salt Lake City, non-mormon wife. She will **** herself.

Where are some good suburbs in Houston? I know of Humble and Spring as of now, but is there anything new out there. I want something calm and peaceful with good schools for my kids. Any input will be greatly appreciated

I am from Katy and with the new I-10 expansion...its gotten really nice...they construction should be done in June on our side of town and prolly will be done here in a couple weeks at the most...The schools are amazing and there are some great neighborhoods as you go south on 99 (or Grand Parkway) for about 5 to 10 minutes...dont know your budget though...Its on the westside about 20 minutes out, which im sure you know, good luck!

I truly have no idea as to what is going on in Houston right now. I haven't been there for 5 years and that is why I want to get caught up.

I am looking at houses 175K and under, with a big backyard for my 2 pitbulls.

Might depend on where you are going to work and how much you like commuting. I live in Spring Branch in a nice neighborhood with a 12,000+ sq ft lot. If you want a suburb though, I am not sure. I think I would go with Humble if all else was equal. I am sure you have to deal with commute to work, etc.

Missouri City/Sugarland has had a huge rash of crime (on the news regularly)lately so I would be leary of there.

Like LeadFoot said - katy is a better option on the west side...

I was looking at Cypress and am really liking it from the pictures. The traffic is not something I want to deal with if I don't have to though. Pearland is a little too pricey and isn't the Woodlands pretty much Spring?

I guess I will look more into Humble and Katy now and compare the 2.

Please keep the recommendations coming as I plan to go back the first week of June.

I grew up in Cypress. It's nice, good schools, booming like crazy. Traffic on 290 is a biatch though. Heard great things about Katy/ditto on the traffic on I10 though. I live in Clear Lake now. Great schools, nice areas on and off the water, easier communte to downtown. I'm only 24 so I'm not worried about the schools. I enjoy the nightlife around Clear Lake and it's not a far trip to the ballpark or to go out in downtown. It also doesn't hurt that I'm only about a half our from HRP. Just my .02...good luck with the decision.

Falcon Point is an excellent neighborhood on the eastside of katy by about 5 minutes....about 10 minutes south of I-10 and they have houses in all ranges....i live right by there and we have acreage property....so there are wide open spaces too...

As previously stated, depending on where you work the spring/cypress area isn't too bad. If you have to work in town 249 moves fairly well most of the time and the beltway is quick most of the time also. The woodlands is one in it's own being a super master planned community, nice place to live but getiing a little more pricey but not much compared to the surrounding areas. I45 traffic sucks anywhere near to the rush hours, but tacking the Hardy ususally is worth the two bucks. My .02 look into the spring/ south tomball area.

Thanks for all the input. I will definately check out Falcon Point in Katy. I guess you can't really go wrong with either of these places mentioned above.

the woodlands hands down. Its freakin gorgeous out here id never leave this area for another part of houston. Its so laid back and quiet compared to other parts that are overflowing with new growth. Ya there is a lot of new growth out here but its not the same ol track housing like other parts of town. i Just like it cause ud never think ur in a major city but then a short 20 min drive and bam downtown. this is one of the few parts of town that you dont hear about all the crime and stuff also. As for 45 traffic. I can get to the beltway 8 west/I10 area in about 30 min in 7am traffic.
