V1, FTW. Got three and once you learn them you wont leave home with out one. Plus when one needs upgrading you just send it to them and they will install firmware. Units never get outdated. My oldest is about 20yrs.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend. I have a beltronics vector 955 and now I have a v1, sure the v1 has neat features but you pay for it. As far as detecting radar, very comparable. ( both give ya plenty of time to get down to speed)

The passport 9500ci is by far the best out but pricey. I have one for sale or trade if anyone is looking for one.

6-1/2 year old thread from the dead...wow.

If you think you don't need the V1 arrows then watch this:

I had an 8500 and V1. I like the auto mute on the 8500 and I like the auto dim on the V1.

When the 9500 came out Escort offered me only $80 to buy back (and they still to this day sell them). I paid about $450 for my 8500 x50 in blue and $10 of that was for the hardwire that doesn't come with it unlike the V1. When a newer POP was offered on the V1 I could send it in and update it for $125. The turn around was within a week (because they sent me a new one).

9500 has some cool features like blocking out junk bands, which some people I've read about blocked out a cop that sits in the same spot, and other GPS stuff. But when the next big bad Escort comes out you can't upgrade like you can with the V1.

So V1 hands down in my book.

First, u can upgrade the 9500xi. It has gps and tells you where red light cameras (I.e. revenue generators) are....although u must update alot to keep up with em all.

If you get techy enough, you can set it so it tells you exact frequencies and if u take the time to learn the real vs. False ones, it can be a real life saver.

Only downside is u need an externap speaker in loud cars.

Could you upgrade an 8500 to do everything the new 9500xi can? No. If you bought a V1 years ago you upgrade it to the newest version they have now. But at least now Escort allows you to upgrade, lets see when the newer model comes out. And why would Escort come out with their dual radar detector Redline and not have arrows?

Redlight camers? The V1 guys will just say don't run them. lol There are some smartphone app's like HUD that will tell you the locations of redlight cameras. And the lockout of certain signals was what I was talking about. Some members on the radar forums have accidentally locked out cops that sit in the same spot to run radar every day and they got popped.

If somebody made the best of both models had to offer that would be an amazing detector.

K40 is the only system I've owned. If you get caught it pays the ticket. No one else offers that.

It's personal preference... Do you want automute or autodim... Arrows or GPS...

I will say that my V1 has picked up more laser than my Bel ProRX65 and escort 8500 x50 ever did. However, it doesn't really matter. I wasn't paying attention one day, going 11 over, went over a hill, got hit with laser, and got a ticket. Yeah my V1 went off almost immediately after coming over the hill, but they point, shoot, click, and read your speed. Nothing you can do. Disclaimer: There was one time that I picked up laser with my V1 about a quarter to a half mile away, on a straight road, when the cop was shooting at an 18 wheeler way in front of me. I think his shot just barely deflected off the big trailer into the V1's sensor. It was lucky, it saved me for sure (posted 35mph on a feeder, going about 50mph) So it is possible to get lucky with a deflection, but don't count on that happening too often.

Personally I really like the arrows. I've never used an escort 9500, but I can imagine that suppressing (i.e. not reporting the signal at all) all known automatic door sensors/false alarms would be awesome (thanks to the GPS). You can program the V1 however. Mine for example is set to mute K band if it's strength is less than 5 bars and hasn't been registering for more than 30 seconds (out of 10 i think), so driving down the freeway I dont get annoyed when passing a lot of businesses. (Can still be distracting though). Another thing to note is, it can be VERY annoying when driving in the parking lot of a big strip center and you read 10 "bogeys" and your V1 screams at you every damn time it picks up another door.

The V1's solid feeling construction is nice too (it doesn't look like every other cheap plastic Cobra). So, assuming all detectors perform the same (which they just about do..), choose the features you think you would benefit from the most.

You can also pair an Android device to your V1.

That's all I've every used as well. K40 Undetectable with the laser blockers on the front and back. Always worked for me! Even if I did get pulled over, I could tell that they had no idea how fast I was going, just that I was going fast. Lol!

I have had a 9500ix and V1, I think the gps feature is really nice and their lock outs make it really nice to know when an alert is real. But that being said the range on the V1 is better at picking up laser and alerts. I really like the arrow, and I noticed that the V1 doesn't have many false alerts as you would think. Plus new the V1 is $100 cheaper.

The V1 and the nearest competitor always run similarly in detections and false alarms, often swapping every few years. There's never much difference there. The difference is situational awareness...for which Valentine is the only game in town. You get arrows and a bogey counter. Truly, once you understand it and know how to use it...end of story. V1 hands down.
