35% for cops
20% for inspection

Go to Applied Window Film Technologies off of Old Katy Road right outside Beltway 8.

When they install the tint tell them you want the DPS approval sticker between the tint and the glass. WTF? Is exactly what I said when the cop gave me the ticket. I went to a tint shop, and they had the sticker, but said they usually don't put it on unless you ask for it. What really pissed me off was the tint on the car is very light, and he knew it was not illegal tint. End of the month ticket quota I guess.

They don't have to use a tint meter when they check your tint???

The sticker doesn't mean ****!!! The state law for the front windows is 35%.. All other windows can be as dark as you want them down to 5%. Police and inspectors use the same meters and 20% WILL NOT PASS inspection!

I believe the laws are 25% and up on the sides, as dark as you want on the rear. Inspection fails below 20% on the sides.

You are right!... but, if you go to a tint shop the choices are 35%, 20%, or 5%!

I have 5% all around, no problems yet. I haven't tried to pass inspection yet either, but I also have illegal exhaust... so..
