It might be safe to say that in the near future Baylor won't be last anymore.

effin ghey.
my old boss is a baylor grad, and all he could talk about is that one year. It's like the messiah came down and granted them the ability to play football or to walk around like they won the MNC. baylor is getting better as a program, and we all know they were ranked better than us defensively last year. I don't expect them to be in the top 3 of the big 12 south anytime soon, but they are growing, and will be a problem for the oversatured big12 south in a year or two, thats if they keep there momentum. There basketball program aint looking to shabby either.

On a side note, I saw at a hotel today, the new pre-season rankings USA Today put out. It had texas @ #2 and Ou @ #5. I don't agree with either of those rankings, and not b/c i'm an aggie either. The south is doing alot of rebuilding this year. everyone is pretty much starting a new QB, and is needing to adjust. Thompson didn't have a good showing against TCU last year, hence the reason they switched to Bomar after that loss. And i'm not too impressed by either of texas' QB starting prospects. I know there is alot of depth to texas' team but not enough to carry a #2 position or a repeat of the MNC. I'm still thinking it will be Notre Dame in the end.

Jon, I think aTm is going to be in for a serious tussle with Baylor in Waco. Honestly, I'd lean to Baylor in the game. With the non-conference schedule that the Ags have this year they probably will and should go 4-0, but they will still lose at least 4 games IMO. I predict 8-4 or 7-5. Hiring _arnell was a HUGE mistake by Fran. When he was DC at Texas the Horns had the worst defense in the history of the program and was deservadly fired. Then when he was at W. Michigan their defense and overall record got worse each year until he was fired. He had been out of football for several years before Franny called. Terrible hire for a guy fighting for his head coaching life in C.S.

The only (and certainly the most important position on the team) spot Texas has a major question mark is at QB. Greg Davis is not going to ask either McCoy or Snead to put the team on their shoulders like VY did. All they've got to do is play within themselves and things should be fine. The Horns are loaded three-deep with unbelievable talent at every position. The OL and DL is top three in the country and will be dominate again. I see Texas finishing 11-1 or 10-2 at worst. They won't repeat as national champions with a freshman at QB, but IMO they win the South and go to a BCS game.

Fran has a bowl game in his future this year. The question is if he will be fired after it or not. If there is a loss to baylor, then he will need to start playing some more golf with Slocum.(There's already grumblings of Tulsa' coach being the replacement) You know how i feel about Darnell, he's not the greatest prospect that was out there during the time or when we were finding a DC. But i'm glad he changed to a 4-2-5, and is incorporating speed into the defense. Darnell at W.M. was on the upturn as a coach but all he started focusing on was becoming a head coach at a big time school. sounds familiar. The Ags have a really good chance of going 4-0 at the start of the season, then the test really begins with tech at home, and we'll see whats really going on.

you are right on texas' depth, there is alot of great rivals ranked players, but not all of them have experience playing in college. I see a 10-2 out of texas, but not losses to ou or tech.

I'm more excited about basketball season rather than football, football is a wait and see. and i've been waiting for a while.

Jon, I agree that the Aggies will be in a bowl this year. However, realistically they could lose to Tech, one loss will come from either KU, Mizzou, or OSU. Probable losses to Baylor, OU, and Nebraska, and a sure loss to Texas. I don't mean to pile on, but the Ags could easily go 7-5 or 6-6. They're poorly coached and Fran doesn't seem to relate to the players very well. Fran reminds me a lot of John Mackovic, who had similar issues with player relationships everywhere he's been.

If you missed it, Krag (Tulsa's HC) just signed a long-term extension there this week. I can't see A&M buying out that contract, paying Krag, and paying the remainder of Fran's salary all at the same time given the athletic budget problems that the school is experiencing.

Hey, its football season. At least we have something fun to talk about in sports. It beats baseball since the Astros are falling off. Maybe your Ags will surprise some folks. Time will tell.

Time always does, and i just read something saying the NCAA will be at OU in the next 2 weeks. how sweet it is. The best recruiting strategy is to tell the players they could make 18k for 1 hour of work a week thru the summer....i wish i had that job

and its a very strong could to tech, KU out of those three, no comments on the others.....and baylor will still be at the bottom of the big12. Guy Morris is doing a good job, but not that great. if fran was at baylor he would be doing a good job.

I've gotta poke fun at the ags here and there. They have had very close games with Baylor the past 2 years where as the Longhorns have sailed through that game. Should be an interesting season in the big 12 for sure
