Well my laptop hd has decided to take a dump. I need to get some info off of it, before it goes.
is there a way to hook this hd as a slave drive to a regular computer?
I have a partition on it where the info I need is on that partition.

you can buy an adapter to run a 2.5" laptop drive up to the cable for an ordinary 3.5" IDE drive. you can also buy an external HD kit that uses laptop drives. the adapter is the cheaper way to go, but the external kit might have more useful uses in the future.

my bad, I should've been more clear. get ya an external drive kit ($20-30 at frys), plug it in and retrieve those important files you want.

Does anyone know if I will be able to format a harddrive in my HP laptop that never had an internal CD player in it? I tried to format it using external cd players, but it wouldnt work, and Ive been thinking about pennying out the dough for the internal one meant for my laptop.. Should it work to help format the new harddrive?

use the adapter and hook it up as a slave drive. Hope all goes well for ya!

if you get it connected and it still can't be read, you may wanna try getting SpinRite 6....it's supposed to be able to work absolute magic on dying hard drives.....
however, this method may require that you have the HD connected to an IDE controller, rather than via a USB adapter.....not certain tho, haven't looked that deeply into it.
