Should i get a radar detector?
#21
I find that scanning the road ahead works better than a radar detector. Most of the time cops use the point and shoot detectors. Then it only goes off once they shoot, and like most have said, by then it's too late.

That just depends on your driving bud. From the age of 17-19 I got 5 tickets. 19-23 1 ticket and I wasnt even in my dam car. I keep up with the flow of traffic and go a lil over, but I know gettin on can be risky. Id say get somethin you can afford. I don't feel I need one right now but with the mods in the near future I probaly will.

Get a satellite link to your car. Go get all the lo jack numbers for cop cars in texas. Then, have that broadcasted to your navigation system. You can probably do that for under $200.

i have the old escort passport 8500 (non x50), and it has paid for itself countless times. if it prevents you from getting one single ticket, it pays for itself, and then some... dont buy anything less than a top of the line dash mount such as the escort x50, V1, or bel (dont remember their top model). i got the escort because it can show multiple signals of multiple bands, along with their signal strength. the bell cant do that, and the V1 shows multiple signals, but not their strength.
plus by owning one, you are doing your part to fight the oppressive 'driving tax' collection tactics by those that are supposed to be 'protecting and serving' you.

Im thinkin about the escort or a less expensive bel. Not sure which one to get. With the cops increasing technology today i just have a hard time believing a detector will be worth my while. I want one i can really "rely" on. That doesnt mean i wont scan the road for cops or just drive insanely fast, that would be stupid, i want one that will give me added protection. Its just hard lettin go of 250 bucks.

Yes. Definitely. For those that say they don't work, buy a better detector. I have had my butt saved numerous times.
And I agree with the others. Don't waste your money unless you save up for a premium detector. Some of those cheap ones are nothing but noisemakers and pretty lights. Some manufacturers guarantee you won't get any rader related tickets by offering to pay them for the first year of ownership. How is that not worth it?

The V1 does show strength. It counts up to 9 bogeys and proritizes them by making the biggest threat blink along with the direction of the bogey. There is no other detector that has all of these features. The V1 is the most informative and helps you pick out where the bogey is...not just "signal strength".

Anyone know where i canget a v1 for under 300? I know i can get the escort for a little under 300 shipped. Is there any significant difference between the red and blue display on the escort?
