Default Is the world ending?

Heard on the radio this morning that there were whispers in high places regarding a POSSIBLE alliance or a POSSIBLE merger......GM and Ford!!! I doubt anything will come of it, but the fact that someone mentioned it is kind of scary.

Seems to me that those Detroit boys need to do something about the UAW if they're going to stay in business.....and before ANYONE gives me crap about the UAW you need to explain why a STARTING janitor makes almost 50k a year.

its just bs to help get the stock back up im sure....kinda like the thing about toyota or nissan and gm merging....considering GM produces 18 percent of the worlds automobiles, the government wont let it fail cause itd lose all the money from the taxes and what not.

and i dont think gm and ford merging would be favored for many reasons...one being that if there is no other big domestic competition, what incentive is there to build high horsepower applications?, itd all turn to foreign gas saving tree hugging cars again like in the 80's and early 90's. america needs that competition and dont bring up dodge, they are the ones who need to be bought out, cummins motors are about the only good thing that is in those vehicles. if gm bought them and had cummins on a contract for their vehicles, can you imagine the high horsepower and torque that could come out even on top of the duramax?

Im sure its just bs talk...at least i hope

BP with the daily reality check.

Isn't Ford slated to loose 9 Billion this year alone?

They announced last week a buy out program for some employees, along with kicking 10-14k (saw both reported) white collar jobs getting cut.

Dunno how DCx is is doing, but 2 of the big 3 aren't too well... and havent been for a while.

My question was sort of like, you know, humor.

Since this is generally a CAR forum, I mentioned CAR manufacturers....

Now, if this site were alqaedasuicidebombtech.com, or shoebombtech.com, or suitcasenuketech.com, I may have brought up issues OTHER than cars...

Besides, al qaeda and all those other idiots have been wanting to do that for 20 years - it is NOT new news...

I predict in 5 years we won't have the big 3 anymore unless you consider Toyota as being part of the group. Either Ford or GM will be bankrupt by then and by the way the news was last week Ford is the front runner. Dodge is doing good still and has billions of German dollars backing them.

Ford needs to start building tanks, airplanes and helicopters. If the war in Iraq escalates it'd be a great time to have stock in a company like that.
