Ours doesn't have a problem holding the power. Its because the clutch recieves 4000-5000 clutch dumps on sticy tires like its suppose to. I dont think many of you alls have done that one. We need something that will hold on the track, who cares about the dyno.

btw I want that turbo kit of yours! LOL

I've seen both DJ and MM drive. MM needed an auto, those granny shifts were slowing him down.

I'll admit that I get a wicked smirk on my face thinking about DJ's car with a TH350 in it though. That would kick some serious ***. Sure would solve a lot of issues.

DJ is running the Texrailia dual disc but it is not holding, I believe they are upgrading him to a triple disc setup. I believe we all know the auto would run better times at the track, but they just don't have the fun factor on the street etc... Good luck LP.

Hey Matt...yep had some issues with the Exo-Skel holding the power at the track with slicks and 3800+lbs race weight. Would more than likely be just fine with a few hundred pound lighter car making a couple hundred less HP.

We tried another twin disc with more clamp load and still didn't work. Textralia is now sending me a triple disc to "play" with. This one should work with no problems and still give me great street manners. Should be here in a few days.

If all I was interested in was a killer number at the track than absolutely a built auto would be the only way to go...that would be NASTY but everyone that knows me I just like grabbin' gears way too much!

No the Exo-Skel is running around $1250 MSRP. Great clutch for a car making less than 750-800 RWTQ.

Theres nothing special who markets those discs..>They are made by the same manufactures. Textrailia just puts their name on it when they find the right combo and 500% markup I could prolly do some research with one in hand and put a clutch like that together for about 450-500 bucks with ease.

Lets see you do it and then stand behind it! I am sure a lot of us could do something for less, but I don't see you offering anything but a smart *** remark all because the clutch is a little pricey? Do you expect them to do it for free? Not trying to get pissy with you I just don't see the point in ******* someones product that you haven't even tried! Besides I thought you were running a T350 in you car?

Easy there killer. Im just supplying options.

I just went to a local distributor here in Dallas, picked up a 6 puck kevlar/organic disk, and a pressure plate. It just so happens to look like another "sponsors" unit here. I spoke with the guys for a while and was told theres nothing special, they just put some parts together and it works well. Tried a few different manfuctures discs and voila. you have a strong unit. There is nothing special made on the units or special ordered. There is no warranty on anything in racing and i paid 400% less then what they retail the same unit for. Its a Sachs pressure plate, an AMS disc...put them together and balance the unit, call it a "sponsors unit" for a waaaay cheaper. Sorry if i stepped on anyones toes here, seems they are a little fragile.

Another little tidbit, there are only 2-3 gear makers in the world, same goes for valvesprings same goes for clutches. Id bet anything that the parts used from the triple disc setup will look oddly familiar to parts made by Daikin. That happens to be the same stuff Exedy uses in their clutches..Freaking weird isnt it..? Go straight to the source and by pass all the market mark up. Thats all ive done with the clutch im putting in my customers ride.

I'll have to agree and disagree with you at the same time. I don't think you realize how much R&D goes into clutch set ups...It's not a matter of pulling items off the shelf and slapping them together.

Here a little break down:

http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=61020

Q: What makes the exo-skel so special?

A: The simple answer is the careful selection and design that comes altogether to make a very drivable clutch. As with all the Textralia products the key is not only good power handling, but also good drivability. Textralia works hard to ensure that the clutch has the pedal feel of stock or near stock on the product. Often times you get a clutch which has good power holding capacity, but poor manners. Its either on/off, or it chatters/shudders badly, or the stcok pedal height is moved requiring modifications to the stock hydraulics For our products our goal is to eliminate all of those issues and deliver a clutch which acts like stock, drives like stock, but handles considerably more power than stock.

Q: What makes the exo-skel better than a single disc clutch?

A: The single disc clutch is by far our best seller. It has all the characteristics described above. The single disc acts like stock, drives like stock, but handles considerably more power than stock. But, sometimes even that isn’t enough. There are those people who want to push the edge. The Oz700 is rated safely to 700 lb ft of Tq. In reality its been used successfully behind cars making about 850 lb ft of Tq. But, 700 lb ft give it a safety margin to cover the “unknowns”. Well, for some people 850 lb ft of Tq. Is a point on the dyno they plant go well past. So, when big power capacity simply isn’t nearly enough, or rotational mass is critical, the exo-skel is the product offering to meet that need. There are two key factors to the exo-skel which separates it from its oz700 brother. The first is area. The exoskel while physically smaller in diameter than the oz700 has much more surface area than the oz700. This is because instead of one clutch disc, it actually has two clutch dics in the unit. This greater area provides more surface area, and thus greater power holding capability than the oz700. In fact it is much, much more. Second, the exo-skel has a lower MOI (Moment of intertia). In other words the clutch not only weighs less that the Oz700 (by 11 lbs) of total mass, the mass is moved inboard (more towards the center). The closer mass is the center, the easier it is to accelerate, and the more power that gets put to the ground.

Q: What is the drivability of the Exo-skell?

A: Everyone who has driven an exoskel equipped vehicle has reported it to be the best clutch in terms of drivability and power handling they have ever driven. The reports and first hand driving experience we have with them repsorts the clutch has a stock pedal feel. The engagement is very smooth, and the clutch has a very progressive engagement all the way through its travel. All we can say is we are thrilled the cutch has been as big a hit with the folks using it as it has been.

Q: What if a dual disc isn’t enough for my car?

A: We have a triple disc available to handle up to 1500 lb/ft of Tq. Again, it has the same feel and drivability as the dual disc.

I would love to see that...then have someone respond to problems you may or may not have in the way Textralia does for their customers...not gonna happen!

Too have someone stand by their product like they do...too me it's worth the extra $$. Dollar for dollar I honestly don't think there's a better all around clutch on the market today...

Thats marketing for you right there in bold print..

Let me let you look at something real quick..

http://www.arcperformance.com/hycasetrpl2.html

Now pull up that picture you have of your triple disc setup, and then look at the pictures of the Exedy stuff.

They are not doing all the design stuff themselves bro. Ill lay the money on that one. Daikon is doing. Daikon engineers are the one coming up with these plates, the sponsor is coming in with different pressure plates to try to give that stock feel. You know why it feels like stock..? Cause it is a STOCK pressure plate! 12" GM to be exact. If you dont believe me go visit any clutch distributor plant near you and speak with the guys in sales. Sure they are salesmen, but you'd be really surprised at all the box swapping that goes on. Mark my word...its marketing and who is good at what to get away with the price gouging.

Thanks for the advice DJ, I plan on making right at 750-800rwhp on nitrous and lets say 900-1000TQ. I am going with the McCloud for right now, And if that give me problems I will see how the triple disc is holding for you. Thanks again for your help, I cant beleave that finding a clutch would be this stressful. I just want a clutch that will handle a few 9 sec. passes and still last 15k+ miles with street abuse. I am in the same boat as you on the auto subject, I just want one time slip that says 9.XX@14X and then race people from rolls.

Any clutch manufactured by the major clutch builders comes with a manfucture defect warranty. Thats all that they are turning these things in on.

No one warranties racing parts that stays in business long. Sure you can call it good customer service by picking up a phone, calling the distirbutor who receives these "special" disks and says, put it in our box and send it to Joe Schmoe. He's sending back a defective clutch.

Then they inspect it once in house and with all the 500%mark up they have in the clutches, pay the small fee for the unit that was an installer error (sent back as defective) and everyone says they have great service...Its not hard to crack peoples businesses wide open when you dig hard enough. Joe Schmoe does not make ANY parts in house. Bet on that?

No prob. I'm getting some info together for our "doubting" Thomas...I hope the McCloed works better for you than it did for me. I still have my old one here in the garage. It needs to be sent back and gone back through to freshin' it up but thats it...yeh as soon as I get this deal figured out I'll be looking for those "magic" numbers too...on drag radials!! Good luck!!
