First Time Pulling an Engine: Advise, Tips, Step by Step Recommendations
on a scale of 1 to 10, I am around a 6.8 as far as mechanically inclined...
I have replaced every type of bolt on imaginable... I have pulled heads and lower intakes... as far a pulling a motor this will be the first... what mistakes should I avoid? does someone have a write up?
Tommorow morning should be fun

Pulling an engine isn't hard, just make sure everything is loose (electronics wise) and make sure you double check everything. I've pulled quite a few motors and it's all the same. If you're bringing it out of the top make sure you have enough room to get it high enough!

Its easier to pull it from the bottom. The hard part is getting your car high enough on jackstands. And no, I'm not volunteering.
There is also a book that shows you step-by-step on how to pull the engine. Do a search and you'll find it.

if you pull it from the top make sure you have enough ceiling space and you will also have to support the trans. and then turn the engine sideways to pull it out. I would take out all the accessories of the front of the motor first and exauhst manifolds and make sure you have the wireing harness disconected.

Don't pull it from the top......Why would you do that??? I think it's easier from the top. Mark and list all you're bolts put them in bags if you need to, so when you put them back you're not going to be lost. Get some friends to help you out, you gonna need it.

I have the book that shows you how to pull it from the bottom (which is the ONLY way to do it IMO) and it is very straightforward.
How to Build Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s by Will Handzel. They have it at your local B&N.
There is even a guy with a mullet in the book.
I need to take a look at it as well seeing as how I will be doing a little winter modding.

+1 for that book... i bought it yesterday morning..... It is awesome.... it is straitforward...... they have it at VatoZone! They say the bottom is 100xs easier..... Robbie said 11 nuts and bolts vs 40+...... pick your choice!
I bought a motorcycle lift... just need 20+ inch jack to raise the car today.... anyone have one?

That quick-disconnect wasn't too bad for me, hardest part was getting the white collar all the way in AND all the way around - once you've succeeded it just pops right out.
That T50 on top of the strug tower IS a pain. I remember doing struts/shocks for a friend and having to use a little "angle" hex key.
